12 minute Makeover on Jan. 12

The City of Tucson is advocating a voluntary 12 minute “community-wide litter clean up and beautification project makeover” at 12 noon on Tuesday, January 12. See their website by clicking here.

“The goal of the 12-Minute Makeover is to encourage community pride and to make a difference in our neighborhoods. People who have the strongest community bonds feel the highest obligation to keep their areas litter-free. A cleaner city is a safer city. Keeping Tucson clean and beautiful is up to everyone.”

It’s a clever way to ask residents to pick up trash and recyclables where you live and work. And it may also be due to the budget shortfall the City of Tucson is experiencing, without adequate staff to clean up the City sidewalks, streets, neighborhoods.

And it will only take 12 minutes during your lunchtime. Take your kids too to teach them about litter pick-up.

I also like the repetition of 12s in this project: January 12, at 12 p.m. for 12 minutes.

So help out with this makeover, not of your face, but of the face of the City. For further info: email 12minutemakeover@tucsonaz.gov or call 520-792-CITY (792-2489).

Note: if 12 minutes of litter pick up isn’t enough for you, here’s a link to Tucson Clean and Beautiful’s ongoing volunteer efforts.

I love this idea. Great info once again, Carolyn.

Thanks Azmouse, let’s hope this community-wide effort does some good.  I pick up litter and recyclables anyway whenever I go walking in my neighborhood, by carrying plastic bags with me.

Three hours to go…wonder how many of my neighbors will be out doing the “12 minutes” it will be great to see who is actually involved in a project of what a City can be if the citizens realize THEY are actually the City.
I know I’ll see you out there, too.

Thanks for the reminder notice for high noon today.  Yes, I hope many Tucsonans participate in this 12 minute clean up.
