Finally found the Ginza restaurant today, south of the intersection of Kolb and Sunrise (SW corner). Izakaya are smaller appetizer-like dishes for 2/3 people, featuring Japanese delicacies such as soft shell crab, gyoza, sashimi, tempura, also green mussels. This place even has an uber-modern black-tiled restroom with large stones on the floor and faux banana & orchid plants. The salmon sushi I had for lunch was exquisite. Check it out!

Fellow blogger Carolyn Classen and I did lunch at Kazoku today. I will definitely return. The restaurant was doing a brisk lunch business especially for a Wednesday. I ordered the sashimi and Calif roll lunch and everything was fresh, fresh, fresh. I’m hoping they can survive that location because many other restaurants failed at 4210 E. Speedway Blvd, one block west of Columbus next to the costume shop. (I am going to go blind with these damn Captchas.)

Fellow blogger Karyn Zoldan and I met today at Kazoku on Speedway for a delicious Japanese lunch. I had the shrimp & vegetable tempura, which was terrific, with light batter, and even a banana tempura thrown in. They also gave us ice cream for dessert which is not the case in most Japanese restaurants in town. Thumbs up for me. “Kazoku” means family and the restaurant is run by an aunt and her nephew, the sushi chef.

Karyn, you must mean Takamatsu. Hope tiponeill reads your message and calls them in his search for good sukiyaki. I haven’t been there for years either.

Thanks Karyn for your comments about Japanese food and sushi. I have to try Ginza now that you mentioned the tapas (izakaya style). We have enjoyed Sushi King as well. And yes, it seems that Bunbuku (and Bonsai) have gone out of business.

That’s a good list.
I like Ginza although I haven’t been for probably a year. They have really good izakaya – Japanese tapas. I don’t think anyone else has that in town. Bunbuku did but went out of business. Sushi King on Ft. Lowell is also good.

Takayama on Speedway used to have sukiyaki on the menu but I haven’t been there in ages.
