It’s the 8th Annual free Fiesta Grande Street Fair organized by the west-side Barrio Hollywood Neighborhood Association coming up on April 10 and 11! Live music includes Los Changuitos Feos, Hollywood Knights, Los Gallegos, Conjunto F.E.A.R, The Soggy Nachos, Ritmo Suave, and many more.

Plus a kick-off parade with floats, a classic car show, jumping castle, rock climbing wall, carnival rides & games, great food and beverages! Try the Sonoran hot dog.

Fair hours are Saturday April 10, 9:30 AM to dusk and Sunday April 11, high noon to dusk. Location: on Grande Avenue (street closed to traffic) between W. Speedway and W. St. Mary’s Road.

I’ve been attending almost every year, and this festival is lots of fun, with lots and lots of people. For more information call Ward 1 Council office at 520-791-4040.

This festival is a good thing, but please know that there is a carnival game there called “Rabbit Toss” that gives away live rabbits as prizes.  I believe it is unethical to have live beings as prizes, and cruel to have rabbits sit outside all day in the sun.  I made complaints to the festival’s information booth.  After being told to go away by one of the individuals staffing the booth (who also suggested that I was trying to “ruin” the fiesta), I was able to address the matter with a man apparently in charge of the festival, but he said he did not understand why it could be considered wrong to have live rabbits as prizes.
If anyone reading this is planning to go to the festival on Sunday and is also concerned about animal cruelty, please make these concerns heard at the festival’s information booth.  If more speak up, perhaps next year the festival will not allow this carnival booth to come back (it is not a local booth–it is an outfit from Arkansas).  Thank you.

Rosa, I didn’t notice those live rabbits yesterday.   I have forwarded your comments to some of the event organizers.  Thanks for writing.  Hope you enjoyed the fiesta otherwise.

    Thank you!
