Go tropical (quilts & crafts)!

“Tropical Islands Quilters & Crafters”, is a newly formed group in town.

“Description: Quilting with a focus on the use of Tropical, Hawaiian and oceanic print fabrics. Crafts utilizing sea shells, beads, fibers and more to create wall hangings, fabric baskets, jewelry, etc. Sharing creativity along with experiences and ideas using a wide variety of craft supplies and techniques.”

Bring a project or share a project.

When and Where: the fourth Friday of the month starting on July 30th at the Himmel Library (near Speedway and Tucson Blvd at 1035 N. Treat Avenue) from 1 to 4 pm.

July 30: “We plan to share quilting and craft ideas with each other. Show-and-tell is encouraged, as well as exchanges of fabrics and craft supplies. You can bring your sewing machines and/or teach others how to make a small project. Food and drinks are allowed so feel free to bring snacks or light lunches. We will also discuss plans for the August meeting.”

If you’re not happy with the Democrats or Republicans running for U.S. Senate in Arizona, take a look at the July 22 KUAT Channel 6 online interview of Jerry Joslyn (Green Party) and David Nolan (founder of the Libertarian Party), also both running for this seat.

Both hopefuls are former businessmen with political activist backgrounds.

These two candidates will be included in forums/debates once the August 24 primary is held, and the Arizona Democratic Party and Arizona Republican Party have their nominees. Well known U. S. Senator John McCain is the incumbent in this race, and is up for re-election, facing two Republican challengers. And there are 4 candidates vying for the Democratic nomination.

Monday, July 26: CHARLOTTE’S WEB (1973)
The original animated version of E.B. White’s popular children’s book spins the heartwarming tale of a very special friendship between Wilbur the pig and Charlotte the spider, not to mention Templeton the rat! Featuring the voices of Debbie Reynolds and Paul Lynde.

Tuesday, July 27: HELP, I’M A FISH! (2008, Denmark, dubbed in English)
In this lushly animated undersea adventure, three children stumble upon the hidden cave of a mad professor and drink a potion that turns them into sea creatures! The chase is on when the antidote falls into the hands (or fins!) of a lowly pilot fish, who drinks it and acquires the power of speech and a maniacal desire for world control! Featuring the voices of Monty Python’s Terry Jones and Alan Rickman (Snape in the Harry Potter films).

Wednesday, July 28: THE INDIAN IN THE CUPBOARD (1995), with free copies of the book for those in attendance (while supplies last)!
The classic young adult novel by Lynn Reid Banks comes to cinematic life in this thrilling adventure tale of a lonely boy who discovers a magical wooden cabinet that can bring his plastic toys to life, including a six-inch tall Iroquois warrior named Little Bear.

Thursday, July 29: LOONEY TUNES CLASSIC CARTOON DAY! (1950s)
Celebrate your favorite Warner Brothers characters with great vintage Looney Tunes cartoons screened from glorious 35 mm film prints! See Bugs, Daffy, Roadrunner, Porky and the whole gang up to their old tricks in such favorites as Beanstalk Bunny, A-Lad-in-His Lamp, Dr. Jerkyl’s Hide, Duck Amuck and lots more … 80 minutes worth, to be exact. Friday, July 30: THE THIEF OF BAGDAD (1940)
