Thursday, September 30th, 2010

Find out who this visioning group “Imagine Greater Tucson” (IGT) is by attending their Kick Off event on September 30th, 4-5:30pm at Hi Corbett Field – Oktoberfest tent on the field (Randolph Way, between Broadway and E. 22nd). I hear they are an outgrowth of a 2007 Tucson Town Hall meeting on Tucson’s future.

“All attendees of the Kick-Off are invited to stay and enjoy the Oktoberfest opening night festivities at 6pm. Families and friends are welcome.”

“Imagine Greater Tucson is led by Director Eileen Fagan. A steering committee and several working groups are in place to inform and engage the public. Working group members include representatives from neighborhood and environmental/conservation groups, business, education, government, health care and non-profits”. (per Donald Ijams, IGT member and coordinator of the Neighborhood Support Network)

LD 30 candidates debate (KUAT and Clean Elections)

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

On September 29, KUAT Channel 6 is hosting a televised debate between Republican LD 30 State Senator Frank Antenori and challenger Democrat Dr. Todd Camenisch, at 6:30 p.m.
You can view it online at: www.azpm.org (usually a few hours before the debate and thereafter).

The next day the three candidates running for LD 30 State House (Rep. David Gowan, Rep. Ted Vogt, and Andrea Dalessandro) will face off at an Arizona Clean Elections Commission (CCEC) debate live in Tucson, at the Pima Community College East Campus, 8181 E. Irvington Rd., at 6 p.m. Gowan is running “clean” and the other two are running traditionally.

Senator Frank Antenori was appointed to this position in February, 2010 when then LD 30 Senator Jonathan Paton resigned to run for CD 8 House (which he lost to political newcomer Jesse Kelly in the GOP primary). Antenori was one of the 2 freshman house legislators in that district since January, 2009 and is program manager in the Aerospace-Defense industry. Dr. Camenisch serves on the Catalina Foothills School District Governing Board and is a professor at the U of A in the College of Pharmacy.

The other 2 Republican house legislators elected Rep. David Gowan and appointed Rep. Ted Vogt are both running for re-election, on the same team as Senator Antenori.

Gowan is a magazine distributor. Vogt was a 3rd year law student at the U of A when he was appointed in March, 2010. Their Democratic challenger is Andrea Dalessandro, who ran before for this same position in November, 2008, and is a retired CPA/teacher/small business operator of a tax practice.
