Got this comment from “Jerry A” but it went into another odd blog (only photos of some of the candidates, without any comment access).  So here’s what Jerry said:
“I’ve started listening carefully to what Downing has to say.
Is he on to something?  I think so.
But to overcome voter apathy and the party structure is a real challenge.
Should be a very interesting debate.”

Reminder: this LD 28 debate tonight.  In reply to Jerry A, about Ted’s proposal–it does streamline the state legislature and save on double the amt. of legislators.  Only Nebraska has a unicameral legislature.

Contentious debate tonight before about 65 people, with similar questions to last week’s LD 27 debate — how to prevent further cuts to K-12 public education, how propose to balance the state budget,  how to secure the border & enact comprehensive immigration reform, their opinion on SB 1970,  how to handle the budget cuts to seriously mentally ill, and how to bring high tech jobs to Arizona.  The 3 Democrats (Aboud, Farley & Wheeler) were united against the 2 Republicans and 2 Independents.  Also in attendance tonight were former House Rep. Marion Pickens, and former candidates Gayle Hartmann (Ward 6 Council), and Mary DeCamp (Ward 3 Council).  Watch this video when it is posted hopefully within 72 hours.

Tucson Weekly (page 13, 9/16 issue)  has an article called “Party Crasher” about how the Republican candidate Krino may win this LD 28 race, when the Democratic vote splits between Senator Aboud and Downing (now Independent, formerly Democratic house legislator), and Independent Ewoldt (former Green Party activist).

Very odd – I tried Chrome, Firefox, and even IE – I get a page saying “General Election Debate videos … Candidates .. yadda yadda, but there is no video, its blank ?

          Oh well, not important

Try the home page of Clean Elections:
            http://www.azcleanelections.gov/home.aspx
then click on the arrow for Video (“Watch a Candidate debate”),  then
“Click here to view General Elections debates”, and scroll down to LD 28,
then click on “Watch now!” over on the right.
Maybe you have to install something else to give you video capability
It’s worth it to see these 7 candidates discuss the issues. Good luck.

Video link works for me… now to watch it a week later (I’m so behind on so many things)

Maybe you have to install something else to give you video capability
I’m using a brand new Win7 – it probably requires flash or some such POS to be installed :)

    I’ll  try on another machine

    • cochisecitizen

I’m using Windows 7 & Firefox. Yes, you need to have flash installed. I don’t like Flash, because a lot of ads on web sites use it to flash animated garbage all over the screen. But, you need flash for many videos, so I use the No Script add-in for Firefox. It blocks all flash scripts and all I get is a box with a “F” in it which I have to click and specifically click “allow” for it to play, then I get the video.

Thanks cochisecitizen, hope this helps tiponeill.  Not many of these legislative debates are live, so it helps to see them online here.

David– you are still current, as you can watch the LD 28 Senate debate on KUAT Channel 6 tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.  I’ll post the link when it’s online as well.

UA College Republicans hosted a town hall tonight for LD 28 Senate candidates only in the Student Union Rincon room.  Senator Aboud was “invited but apologized for not being able to attend” per the Moderator.  The other 3 candidates (Downing, Ewoldt, & Krino) answered the usual questions about why they were the best candidate, how to fix the state budget, how to improve educaton, illegal immigration, etc.  About 30 people were in the audience. Also attending tonight were former City Council candidates Mary DeCamp (Ward 3), Tres English (Ward 6), and former Mayoral candidate Dave Croteau.  Downing was comfortable in the Student Union as he is a Professor at the UA and Krino just graduated from the UA law school.
