Attorney Jonathan Rothschild exploring run for Mayor of Tucson

by on Sep. 27, 2010, under Life, Politics

Jonathan Rothschild, J.D.

An attorney with the law firm of Mesch, Clark & Rothschild, Jonathan Rothschild has served as managing partner since 2001. A political newcomer, he is now exploring a run for Mayor of Tucson. Rothschild is a Tucson native, graduate of Tucson High School, Kenyon College, and the University of New Mexico Law School. He has also served as Adjunct Professor at the James E. Rogers College of Law, University of Arizona.

More information from his website www.jonathanformayor.com (“New Energy, New Perspective” is his theme):

“Jonathan has a long history of extensive service with local non-profits – as a leader and a worker. He has served in various capacities, including Board President of Casa de los Ninos, Handmaker Jewish Services for the Aging, and Temple Emanu-El.

He is a member of the Tucson Parks & Recreation Commission and currently serves as Chair of the Jewish Community Relations Council. Jonathan has also served on the Boards of the Tucson Medical Center Foundation, Jewish Family & Children’s Service, Friends of the University Libraries, University of Arizona and the Community Foundation of Southern Arizona.”

Jonathan is active in the Pima County Democratic Party and has served as its Treasurer in the past. For a very long list of his early supporters (including former Mayors George Miller and Tom Volgy) go online to his website.

The other possible candidates for Mayor may be 4 term Democratic Councilmember Shirley Scott (Ward 4), or 2 term Democratic Councilmember Karin Uhlich (Ward 3). Current Republican Mayor Bob Walkup‘s 3rd term expires in December, 2011.

Just what we need another liberal Democrat lawyer running things here. Not like Walkup has done any better.
How about replacing the entire City Council when they come up for re-election.

    • fraser007

      Except for Koz.

  • Carolyn Classen

I am wondering why Republican Tucson attorney John Munger (ex-Gubernatorial candidate) doesn’t jump into this race as well.  And remember the voters could give the Mayor & Council pay raises (80%) on the November ballot as well (via Proposition 401).

    • fraser007

      Carolyn:

With all due respect. The pay raise will not pass nor any tax increase. Just my thought.

      • Carolyn Classen

Fraser007, you were right about both Prop. 400 and 401 (see your comment on 9/28/10 which I am replying to.  And I hear that it is possible that Dave Croteau (Green Party) may try another bid for Mayor as well.

  • anonymous_coward

Looooooser.  Enough of the Secular Progressive politicians.  We need someone who beleives that it is NOT the job of government just to employ people and redistribute wealth. We need someone with some basic values that respect private property.

    • Carolyn Classen

Any suggestions as to who would be a better candidate (from any party- Democratic, Green, Libertarian, Republican, Other?)

  • fraser007

Bet Janet Marcus and Mayor Miller put him up to this.

    • Carolyn Classen

Well, it’s early in this race, so let’s wait & see which other Democrats (and Republicans and others) enter the race for Mayor.

  • PRH

Well, we’ve been marching in place here for the last 12 years.  Fresh blood and brains would be appreciated.

    • Carolyn Classen

I hear that Mayor Walkup may run for another term, so yes, Jonathan Rothschild would certainly be “fresh blood & brains”.

  • Carolyn Classen

    Rothschild’s first fundraiser coming up on Dec. 7, 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Etherton Gallery, 136 S. Sixth Ave.  Suggested donations: $50, $100, $150. RSVP  to rsvp@jonathanformayor.com.

    • fraser007

My prediction based on this blogsite. Mayor Walkup will not run again. George Miller and Janet Marcus put this guy up to run for the job. He wont win.

      • Carolyn Classen

Fraser007, who do you think will run & win?

        • fraser007

I don’t have my finger to the pulse of the Republican Perty to even hazard a guess. Hopefully not Ron Asta. He would probably would announce at a steak fry. Steve Koz is too smart to run. He can be far more effective on the Council. Fimbres and Cunningham. Are they even alive? At least Cunningham has a pulse, and seems to be a nice guy.
          The others. LOL
We are so disfunctional. So I don’t really know. Not much of an answer. Sorry.

          • Carolyn Classen

For the Republicans, other names that have surfaced are former Ward 6 Councilmember Fred Ronstadt (who has a radio talk show on KJLL), and Bill Holmes, Past President of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (who recently supported Prop. 401).   He works at Wells Fargo Bank I believe.

  • fraser007

I know Bill Holmes. Have worked on some projects with him. He would make a good mayor.
Fred Ronstadt is another good choice. Good guy too.
Good ideas Carolyn. Maybe there is hope for Tucson!!!
