Resolve to make a New Year’s Resolution

Friday, December 31st, 2010

Here it is almost 1/1/11 (wow, great date) and time to think about New Year’s resolutions. Or is it?

If you feel guilty about making one, continue reading. If not, stop and just enjoy life.

I resolve to be…

I resolve to do…

I resolve to …

What?

Eat less & lose weight?

Help others more & be kinder, especially to the elderly?

Work harder or find work?

Be more loving?

Be more patient with your children?

Walk the dog every day?

Are we human beings or human “doings”? We are always doing something: singing, eating, performing, hiking, walking, bicycling, eating, sleeping, shopping, blogging, etc. etc.

Think about what is feasible, realistic, or pragmatic for a resolution, if you choose to have one for 2011.

Maybe it would be just better to say: forget it and don’t bother at all! “Eat, drink and be merry”… or see what Hugh Holub over at “Baja Arizona” has to say about resolutions (click here).

I remember a sign I saw back home in Hawaii that says “Smile, enjoy life.”
This sign is usually tacked onto trees or poles along the highways, by unknown, mysterious people (maybe menehune?). For a great photo of this sign see:

Well, maybe it is as simple as that…just resolve to smile more. Or enjoy life more.

Think about a resolution (even it is to strive for world peace and harmony), and resolve to do it even in small steps. Good luck in trying.

Smile & enjoy life!

And Happy New Year to all.

Tucson Arts Brigade (TAB) is a non-profit (501c3) arts organization that brings teaching artists into schools, community centers and neighborhoods.

Help us continue to deliver world class intergenerational and cross-cultural arts education programs that result in murals, theater and multi-media projects that Beautify and Unify the places we live, work and play.

Still time to catch this Art Show fundraiser before January 15 at CataVinos, one block south of Ft. Lowell on Alvernon:

Featuring fine art by Manuel Abril, Tempest Alabi-Isama, Niki Glen, Frank Hernandez, Joe Marshall, Joseph Michael Oland, Riley, Howard Salmon, Michael Schwartz, Will Seberger, Susan Silverman, and more!

Proceeds from art purchases support Tucson Arts Brigade’s community arts, education, and civic engagement programs and the featured artists of the show.

TAB features the Tucson Mural Arts Program, The Water Project: Tucson’s Synergistic Water Festival, Dance Theatre Program, workshops and special events. TAB brings Teaching Artists into schools, community centers and neighborhoods, and offers visual and performing arts workshops and interactive arts opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. About the Friends of Tucson’s Birthplace:

We are a group of Tucson residents committed to re-create and authentically present the historic structures and landscapes to the regional community and visitors in the area known as Tucson’s Birthplace. To that end we have formed an organization to insure the completion of the Tucson Origins Heritage Park.

Our mission is to preserve, honor, protect, restore and promote the cultural heritage of Tucson’s Birthplace at the foot of Sentinel Peak (‘A’ Mountain).

To accomplish this our organization partners with like minded groups locally, regionally, nationally and internationally in order to inform Tucsonans and visitors of this rich, unique cultural treasure.

Our first focus is to complete the Mission Garden, a project begun under voter approved public funds and to be completed in a public private partnership with Friends of Tucson’s Birthplace.

Our goals include not just the construction and planting of the garden, but also its successful operation and maintenance. This will be accomplished through the enlisting and training of volunteers and funded through donations and grants.
