Every once in a while I get an email urging me to “contact my Senator”.
When you consider that our Senators are McCain and Kyl, you just have to laugh at the very idea that “contacting” either of them would make the slightest difference,
DREAM Act, DADT ……. you can be sure how Arizona Repubs will vote on any civil rights issue.

    • Carolyn Classen

True Tiponeill, I grew up in Hawaii and went to law school in Massachusetts where the same was true– you knew how those U.S. Senators would vote.  But now the latter state has changed with Senator Scott Brown.

    • leftfield

Based on experience, I can tell you that you will receive a two page form letter that starts with “Thank you for writing me…” and then proceeds to a lengthy explanation as to why he disagrees with you.  This is nice enough and seems the decent thing to do.  The down side is that, now exposed, you will be forever solicited to financially support the next campaign.

      • tiponeill

Your experience differs from mine – the one time I contacted Kyl he didn’t bother to thank me. He said that gays were immoral.
On the bright side, I never receive any solicitations for contributions from Repubs :)

  • tiponeill

But now the latter state has changed with Senator Scott Brown.
Not that much – Brown voted for DADT reform, unlike AZ’s Senators.

    • Carolyn Classen

Right tiponeill.  DADT repeal vote was 63-33, with 4 not voting. Here’s the list of the other Senators who voted yes to invoke cloture on H.R.2985:

Cheers to the few Democrat Senators who help defeat this monstrous attempt to destroy our country.  It’s is quite amazing how a Democrat, generally, will put the good of the party in front of the good of the country.  A Democrat is always on the wrong side of every issue.   I have already contacted Senator Casey (D-PA) and voiced my displeasure at his vote.

    • leftfield

A Democrat is always on the wrong side of every issue.

      Probably, but so are Republicans.

  • alohapuna

Comments such as the above offer nothing in the way of civil intelligent conversation. It”s hard for anyone to consider it of any value if you simply make a blanket statement which is clearly biased instead of providing specific factual information supporting your position.

Never fal for the numbers of illegal aliens that we are being fed..
CAPS Study 2007 – 38 MILLION illegal aliens occupy America..

  • Common Sense

Wow Rich, how much were you paid to count all the undocumented in the USA (including the territories)? Oh, you’re just spouting the garbage from maniacal racist ideologists, cool, never mind.
Regardless, the legal Latino population will soon make you only half, if not a minority, in Arizona. Unless, of course, they’re smarter than the rest of Arizona and leave. Who wants to live in a state with death panels, run by a lunatic governor, a senile senator, and another senator who can’t tell pork from beef?

    AMERICANS FOR HONEST GOVERNMENT

    Dec.18th,2010

Fellow Hispanic Americans, Obama, Democrats in Congress, the Senate and “LA RAZA, MALDEF, MECHA,LULA AND THE NATIONAL HISPANIC LEADERSHIP” are a threat to our country. Voting to legalized any one that is here in violation of our immigration laws is to void the rule of law. Obama refusing to secure our borders, enforce our immigration laws and suing Arizona for doing the job that he refused to do, is a betrayal to the American people and will affect us the Latino community.
Obama said, the Senate voted against the Dream act is a “incredibly disappointment “. This president and the Democrats are Blind by their objective to gain political power at any cost, they want to void our constitution and the rule of law. Their complete disregard for our constitution and the rule of law are the results of this huge invasion of Mexicans illegal aliens, including the drug cartels.
Obama and the corrupt pro-amnesty Washington politicians are so stupid that are pushing this mass amnesty, by telling the American people, that is important to our economic competitiveness, military readiness and law enforcement efforts.
Obama is a liar, he stop the state of Arizona from enforcing the immigration laws, he refused to secure our borders and promoted the immigration of millions of illegal aliens. We the people must hold Obama and the pro-amnesty politicians accountable for betraying the American people.
Obama and the corrupt Democrats are destroying our country, our Latino character and values are being erode by corruption and crime, we come to this United States in search for a better future, free of Government corruption and we are making this country just like Mexico, corrupt and lawless.
We Latin Americans that opposed to any immigration reform are concern about the character and values of Latinos, we must take responsibility about our economy and welfare, clean up our communities from corruption and crime and support and up hold our constitution and the rule of law; we can not void, or be selective in the application or enforcement of our laws.
This open border policy must end and our immigration laws enforce, to stop this invasion of illegal aliens; no one can call us racists we are just loyal to our country the United States of America, this country give us the opportunity to make for ourselves and our families a future of prosperity and we can not betray our country, we come to be part of this Unite States, not to make here a replicate of the country we come from.
Obama and the Democrats immigration policy, cost the States billions of Dollars in social services, education, law enforcement and the war against the drug cartels criminal activities.
Obama and the pro-amnesty politicians are accountable to the American people no to “LA RAZA, MALDEF, MECHA,LULA AND THE NATIONAL HISPANIC LEADERSHIP” no one that betray the will of the people should be elected to office, we the people must work hard to retire the pro-amnesty traitors and save our country from becoming a third world country just like Mexico.

MR. POLITICIAN, WE THE PEOPLE WANT THE FOLLOWING:

1-Build the fence and secure our Borders, enforce all immigration laws and revise our refuge and asylum policies, to insure their return to their country of origin when is safe for them to return.
2- Pass a legislation that will make every state part of the enforcement of the immigration laws and fund this obligation with the confiscation and sales of property from drug dealers, human traffickers and organized crimes, also by a sales tax.
2- Work on a immigration reform that will not allowed any family reunion clause or petitions for parents, siblings or any relative and exclude and deport any one with criminal record also deport any one that is given US residence upon conviction of any felony crimes.
3- Change our constitution to stop anchor babies (U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC Bill)
4- prosecute any employer that hire an illegal immigrant. The responsibility for compliance rest on the owner or the president, vise-president and human resources directors if the violator is a corporation. Violation of this law should be a jail sentence of the minimum of 5 years.

We the people will work to get the traitors out of Washington. We ask you that get inform and vote out of office the politicians that fail to vote for what is best for Americans.

Here is the list of the traitors that voted to void our immigration law and give amnesty to illegal aliens using political tools that voided the voice of the people.

      • leftfield

They must have a lot more time to read in North Korea.

    • usa1

Amen Mr. Politician. Those of you who don’t  like what he has to say are free to leave this country.
Angel you had a child with an illegal and that’s the choice you made don’t blame the rest of us for your poor decision and try to pull at our heart strings. We in this country need to start taking care of our own.
If, illegals don’t like the country they came from then change it just like my ancestors did through the American revolution and civil wars.
Incidentally Hispanics  are not the only illegal’s here.

  • LostNTime

Traitors???? What the F are you lot on about since when is someone a traitor because they choose to vote a certain way; so I guess you people do not like the fact this is supposed to be the land of the free..
You make me sick with your bully type attitude.

  • angel

MR. POLITICIAN I have a few words for you and i hope you read this. first dont say “we the people” because i see that your the onlyone writing this crap above, let the people vote how they want and STOP trying to presway someone to vote a certin way. first the only reason that immigrants come here illagaly is to make money to provide for their family, if you have a problem with them here illagaly then maybe you should make it eaiser to help them get papers to the ones who are here and do not have a criminal record. Even if they had a criminal record people do change, and everyone needs a second chance. In mexico the people work all day everyday for $ 50 pesos for a weeks worth of work and with that what can you buy?? a loaf of bread and a drink. what if you have a family how can you provide for them? thats why they are here to work. do you think about the kids, and families that dont have enough to eat and cant drink the water there? well do think about it when your sitting in your house at your fine table, drinking your wine and eating your high price meals. and the food that you leave on your plate to throw away, think about the kids and families there who dont have food or water to drink, to the people there who would give anything to have something in their stomach. I’d like to see you go there and work and give you $ 50 pesos to see how you feel, you would not last a day because they do real work, you would not make it a day.. think about the kids who dont have shoes to go to school or the shoes that have holes in them. or the kids who quit school because their family needs extra money so they have to go and work in the fields for little money. so what if they come here to give their kids a good education, and so what if they are here to make money to provide for their family, you know that they do pay taxes also right??? your just a big shot sitting in your office with not a care in the world for other but yourself and your high class friends.. what would jesus do? do you really think he would send everyone out of this country?? i dont think so, to him we are all his children, he loves everyone, we should do the same. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. if you really want to get down to it of sending everyone illagal out of this country, dont you know that this land is the Indian’s?? we took it from them… so what if  you were orderd out of this country??  I am an american citizen, and have been all my life, i am married to a mexican, and we have a daughter, and if he or any other mexican was ever orderd out of this country due to you and your coworkers in office, who dont know a damn thing about the hard life, or what its like to suffer, well lets just say you would piss a lot of people off, because there are a lot of women married to mexicans here and they have kids and i think its just wrong to take a father away from his family, would you want that done to you???

  • LostNTime

Its just like the Chief of Police of Miami  who is an Irish immigrant said the difference between an American and an immigrant is a point of reference an American will generally take everything for granted and presume he has a right to everything this country has to offer where as an immigrant will come here and be grateful for everything that the country has for offer because more often than not what is taken as normal here is not heard of in other places.
The politician above Francisco Canales post is pure hate mongering it is people like him that are nonconstructive for this country and should be thrown out before there rhetoric crap destroys the very foundation of what this country is about..

  • http://pointmantucson.yuku.com/ mike_brewer

Here is a little tidbit that transcends the incessant political polarity… Carolyn will probably know this figure, I will have to go look it up and come back here.. but do you know how much money the undocumented worker has deducted for Social Security that he or she will never see?  It is in the billions for sure. So the unbelievable irony is that these workers are helping fund a system that is paying the retirement of the very people that are so full of hatred.
As for the Hospitals  that cry poor for treating the poor… check the books. They are reimbursed by the Feds at a ratio of 3;1 for their alleged losses. The very reason so many hospitals continue to nearly kill each other to get the contracts for the indigent. Plus a few Stimulus Funds.   Doc Holiday said it best..”my hypocrisy has no bounds.”

    • Carolyn Classen

“Illegal immigrants are estimated to pay in about $7 billion per year into Social Security”, per wikipedia link to Eduardo Porter article (April 5, 2005). “Illegal Immigrants Are Bolstering Social Security With Billions”. New York Times.

    • leftfield

Sadly, reality and logic have no place in the debate over this issue.  The response on the right is emotional and immune to argument.  Scapegoating a largely defenseless group is always a good way to keep people from looking at the real underlying causes of their misery.  The bigger the lie, the easier it is to sell.

  • jeo

you know what i think about the dream act…. look down for the answer…

i said look down not scroll…. hahahaha

  • Plain Ol’ B.O.

O.K. let the Dream Act pass.
    Lower the acceptance requirements
Lower (still) the retention requirements- so folks don’t flunk out the first three weeks like they do now.
Stick your hand further in my pocket.

But PLEASE stop peeing down my leg and tell me it’s raining… Thios is getting down right insulting.
It’s like when you suddenly start “means testing” for Social Security to hand my contributions to the program to illegals because they need it more than me.
