2011 FESTIVAL DATES AND TIMES! (location downtown – see map above)

Friday, October 14, 2011 11am – 10pm
Saturday, October 15, 2011 10am – 10pm
Sunday, October 16, 2011 11am – 6pm

Please pay attention to the 2011 map as this folklife festival has grown and now extends from Old Town Artisans area in the north, down to the TCC Plaza area near Leo Rich Theater to the south. I met people last year who didn’t know about all the sites & entertainment stages as they hadn’t consulted the festival map.

New this year: Tucson MOVE your Body Workout on Saturday October 15, 2 p.m. when “a giant MOVING Parade will swirl through all areas of the Festival in a ‘join-the-parade’ celebration of parade traditions, costumes and color. MOVE your body in your own style, your own expression.”

All info at www.tucsonmeetyourself.org.

Greet, meet and eat at Tucson Meet Yourself.

Wow – this festival has exploded.  When we first attended, 15-yrs ago, TMY was held in the parking lot across from the Historical Society.  It was charming & sweet.  I even got to dance with the founder of the event, Jim Griffith!  Well, that was then and this is now.  Aging limbs will prevent dancing and walking all over the new festival grounds, but it looks like a winner – worthy of an award to it’s founder in fact.  Thanks Jim, and Loma and the countless others who have grown this local fiesta into the delightful weekend that it has become (barring the Occupiers, that is.)

Yes, this folklife festival has exploded.  I remember it as well when it ws only food booths & some entertainment in the El Presidio Park, then it expanded east to Jacome Plaza, and now down south into the TCC Plaza as well.  Many people last year missed the southern portion as they didn’t know it had expanded.

Hundreds of people here downtown at Tucson Meet Yourself. I just listened to the Bouncing Czechs at the City Hall stage, sampled some Korean food and then some of Mama Joy’s catfish.  Much more left to do…checking out Pima County Meet Yourself booths again. Later I checked out the exhibits in the TCC Plaza, and enjoyed some onigiri (sushi with salmon) and Odaiko Sonora Japanese taiko drumming. Met lots of people I know.

Yes, I ended up enjoying music/dance performances every day over the 3 day festival from:
Korea, Japan, China, the Czech Republic, Hawai’i & Tahiti, Mexico, the Middle East, Caribbean, Native American tribes. Also tasted food from Korea, China, Japan & Thailand, being as I am partial to Asian food. This continues to be a terrific cultural festival.
