How many of the pro speakers were paid or brought in by Augusta Resources, I wonder. Copper mining has been historically a boom or bust industry. Ajo and Bisbee are glaring examples or that. Since certain skills are required for most jobs of that type, it's not known how many will actually be filled by current Southern Arizona residents or by those brought in from elsewhere; another problem in itself considering the minimal water resourses available. In addition, the greater number of residents in the surrounding area are rather affluent retirees who will experience only the negative impact of being near such a huge industrial project.
Whatever the potential benefits from Rosemont Mine, the relatively short term gain must be weighed against the environmental loss that will last forever.
