The businesses on and around Broadway between Campbell and Country have organized into The Sunshine Mile, based on a 1953 contest:

In 1953, a contest was sponsored by the East Broadway Merchants to come up with a name for the strip between Campbell and Country Club. The winning entry was, The Sunshine Mile. The Modernist archiectural heritage of this street is a regional asset.

Check out the special deals tomorrow, as well as the month long scavenger hunt with lots of great prizes.

What fun to go on a scavenger hunt for a “Sunny” disc. After listening to Monica Hay Cook of Deco Art of Living and Councilman Steve K welcome the guests at the unveiling of the Sunshine Mile sign on top of that building, I embarked (walking) on the scavenger hunt to ulimately try to win $15 to $250 gift certificates from 17 businesses on this corridor. Some were hard to find, but it was interesting to visit a lot of the businesses which I didn’t even know existed there, such as Casa Colonial, Western Lifestyle Furniture, Art Hair Studio, Little Nesting Bird Company.
