“On Saturday, October 15th from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. come and enjoy the sunshine, fresh air, great food, and good music at an Arts & Crafts Fair, which will benefit a good cause: the Lend A Hand Senior Assistance program that provides free services to ten neighborhoods in Tucson.

Bring your friends and family to the huge parking lot in back of the Mountain Avenue Church of Christ, 2848 N. Mountain Avenue at the corner of Adelaide Drive. Admission is free for the general public and is only $35 for the artists and craft persons ($5 of which is earmarked for advertising).

About 80 really creative, local artists and craftspeople will be there along with community entertainment and some activities for the kids. And you can get some of your holiday shopping accomplished early! For more info or to serve as a volunteer for this worthy event, please contact Wallace Kinkade at 520-323-2142 or wkinkade2@aol.com.”

For more information from their website, http://www.lahseniorhelp.org/.

Lend A Hand Senior Assistance, Inc. is a growing coalition of central Tucson neighborhoods, faith-based communities, and business partnerships. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit and a member of the Neighbors Care Alliance (NCA), a program administered through Pima Council on Aging (PCOA).

Our volunteers provide free services to our seniors to allow them to continue to “age in place” as our neighbors. “Our seniors” are those 55 years and older who live within the geographic boundaries of our collective neighborhoods. No senior is ever charged.

Our services include transportation, errands, friendly visits, friendly phone calls, light yard work and light housekeeping. You do not need to reside in one of our neighborhoods to volunteer.

I used to be the part-time coordinator (and founder) of a similar program (now defunct) in my own neighborhood, which lasted about four years, so I am familiar with LAH’s good work.

Mission Statement:

Lend A Hand Senior Outreach, Inc is a growing coalition of central Tucson neighborhoods, faith-based communities, and business partnerships working together to help older residents living within the boundaries of the participating neighborhoods. Trained volunteers provide services including transportation, errands, friendly visits, and access to other resources that allow older residents to continue to live independently in their own homes, while reconnecting neighbors to each other.

Our Coalition Members are Campus Farms, Hedrick Acres, Jefferson Park, La Madera, Limberlost, Mountain/First, Samos, and Winterhaven Neighborhoods; The Campbell Avenue Business Partnership; and The Mountain Avenue Church of Christ.

LEND A HAND Volunteer Program is a member of the Neighbors Care Alliance, a program administered through Pima Council on Aging (PCOA) and funded in part by a grant through The Southern Arizona Compassion Initiative, a partnership between United Way of Tucson, Pima Council on Aging, PRO Neighborhoods, Interfaith Community Services and the Multicultural Leadership Development Program.

I helped found & coordinate a similiar Neighbors Care Alliance program in my neighborhood, so I am very familiar with the benefits of such a volunteer program, to assist the elderly (mostly widows).

Website: www.lahseniorhelp.org; volunteer coordinator is Michelle Brubaker, 520-248-6882.
