“The Good The Bad and The Bullies” book review

Saturday, August 18th, 2012

I hate bullies. Don’t you? And ask 12 year old local author Levi Fallavollita (of
Vail, AZ) about bullying at school, which is what this book “The Good The Bad and The Bullies” is about.

Levi writes about his personal experiences with other boys at school, jealousy over friendship, thoughts about what is a “real friend”, how to fit in.

Various lessons are portrayed in the book, with discussion about how to get away from bullies, and how to get help. Most of all the book talks about the necessity of trying to stop bullying behavior and turn the situation from fear & anger into something positive.

This children’s book about school life and bullying is well written with realistic illustrations by fellow student Gabe Villa (who was also bullied by the same boys). There even is mention of the perils of cyber-bulling. And the book title is very clever.

My son was bullied in middle school here in Tucson, and prevailed due to intervention from the school counselor, principal, teachers, and us parents. The gang of boys apologized for their nasty behavior and didn’t pick on him again. I definitely advocate that people of any age who are being bullied learn to speak out & find a way to overcome bullying.

The Pima County Board of Supervisors will be proclaiming Monday August 20, as “Anti-bullying Day” and Levi and Gabe will be present at the Board’s meeting for that proclamation, at 130 W. Congress St. at 9 a.m. Supervisor Ray Carroll has sponsored this proclamation as the boys live in his District 4. Levi is a student reporter for the monthly “The Vail Voice”, and he meet Supervisor Carroll at the July 11 grand opening of Old Vail Hot Rod (click here for Levi’s article). It was at that event that Supervisor Carroll found out about Levi’s “Bullies” book, and last Saturday he attended the book signing at Bookman’s on Speedway.

Just found out that both boys are young reporters for Bear Essential News for Kids.

Congratulations to Levi and Gabe on publishing this book. And let us all work together to stop bullying.
