Looks like Romero (D) and Baker (G) will face off again in the General (they did so in 2007 in the same ward). Romero then got 72.86% (42,556 votes) to Baker’s 26.62% (15,551 votes).

KUAT channel 6 reporters Christopher Conover and Andrea Kelly interviewed one write-in Republican who is vying in their primary on August 30 to be their party’s choice for Mayor of Tucson. Click here for the interview on August 19 of carpenter/construction worker Daryl Peterson. Lobbyist Rick Grinnell (the other write-in running for Mayor) was unable to attend the taping. Either needs 1060 write-in votes to qualify for the November general election ballot. Neither has run for Mayor before, but Grinnell has unsuccessfully run twice in the past for the Ward 2 Council seat.

Neither former Mayoral Republican candidates Ron Asta nor Shaun McClusky submitted enough valid signatures to qualify to be on the primary ballot, which is why there will be no Republican name printed on these ballots.

The two Democratic write-in candidates for Mayor, political newcomers David Karr and Joseph Maher Jr. were interviewed on KUAT two weeks before on August 5 (click here). They are facing Democratic candidate Jonathan Rothschild, who submitted 3283 signatures to qualify to have his name on the Democratic primary ballot. Rothschild is also a political newcomer and was interviewed on KUAT back in January (click here).

Also running for Mayor are two Green candidates Dave Croteau and Mary DeCamp who will face off in the Green Party primary on August 30. Croteau ran for Mayor before in 1999 (write-in) and 2007, and DeCamp ran for the Ward 3 Council seat two years ago. Their KUAT interview can be viewed here.

Ballots for the primary on August 30 were mailed out last week starting August 10. Absolute deadline for these ballots to be submitted to be counted is 7 p.m. on August 30.

Rothschild was previously interviewed on KUAT in January (click here).

Karr is pictured below on the left, he is a retired Correctional sergeant and Maher (on the right) is an architect in Tucson.

All face off in the Democratic primary on August 30, so watch the interview (click here) and vote or write-in wisely.

Also running for Mayor are 2 Green candidates Dave Croteau & Mary DeCamp (who were previously interviewed on KUAT, click here), and two write-in Republican candidates Rick Grinnell and Daryl Peterson who are scheduled to be interviewed next Friday on KUAT at 6:30 p.m.

GOP MAYORAL WRITE-IN CANDIDATE RICK GRINNELL AT PIMA GOP AFTER HOURS

Wednesday, July 27th from 6 to 7:30 PM

From Pima County GOP newsletter:

The next Pima GOP After Hours on Wednesday, July 27th will feature Mayoral write-in candidate Rick Grinnell – “2 Ns, 2 Ls.” Rick will talk about his vision for Tucson and the specifics on writing him in on your primary ballot. For example: Be sure to fill in the bubble to the left of where you write in his name. If Rick Grinnell is written-in on the Republican primary ballot just 1060 times, he will be on the general ballot.

For more information on the write-in process and how you can help Rick’s campaign you’re going to want to be here.

Where’s here? The Pima GOP After Hours takes place at your Pima GOP Headquarters, 5447 E 5th Street, suite 100 (just west of Craycroft on the north side of 5th Street) in Tucson.

City Council candidates Jennifer Rawson (for Ward 2) and Tyler Vogt (for Ward 4) will be attending and speaking at this GOP event as well.

Last August 2010, in the LD 28 State Senate race Republican Greg Krino got 1519 write-in votes to qualify for the November election, to challenge State Senator Paula Aboud (according to Pima County elections results). Krino only needed 214 write-in votes, so getting 1060 write-in votes (City-wide) for Grinnell should not be a problem for the Pima GOP.

Daryl Peterson, a construction worker just entered the race last Thursday as a Republican Mayoral write-in candidate, just prior to the deadline for filing.

Assuming Grinnell or Peterson will get on the General election November ballot, either will face off with the winner of the Democratic primary (Jonathan Rothschild facing opposition from 3 write-in candidates– David Karr, Rich Kessler or Joseph Maher, Jr.), and either Green candidate Dave Croteau or Mary DeCamp.

Meet and Greet the Green Party Primary Candidates for Mayor

Mary DeCamp and Dave Croteau

at La Indita Restaurant (Mexican/Latin American cuisine)
622 N. Fourth Ave in Tucson (north of E. 5th Street)

Every Monday at 6:30pm

If you’re a registered Green Party voter in the City of Tucson, or an Independent who registered by July 16 to vote in that primary on/before August 30, here’s your weekly chance to meet & talk with either or both Green candidates.

Previous blogs on Dave Croteau (click here) and Mary DeCamp (click here).

This is Croteau’s 3rd bid for Mayor having run before as a write-in candidate in 1999 and as the Green Party candidate in 2007, challenging Republican Mayor Bob Walkup when no Democrat ran.

DeCamp ran for the Ward 3 City Council seat two years ago in 2009 and lost to Democratic incumbent Councilwoman Karin Uhlich.

If you can’t drop by La Indita, then view these 2 Green Mayoral candidates on Friday’s KUAT Channel 6 interview: http://ondemand.azpm.org/videoshorts/watch/2011/7/22/1830-green-would-be-mayors-tout-first-primary/.

For more information on the Green Party of Pima County, go to their website, www.pimagreens.org. This is apparently the first Green Party primary for Mayor. Another Green candidate Beryl Baker just filed to run as a write-in candidate for the Ward 1 Council seat. She ran for the same seat in 2007 and lost to Regina Romero, the current Councilmember.

Also running for Mayor:
–Democrat Jonathan Rothschild and 3 Democratic write-in candidates, David Karr, Joseph Maher Jr. and Rich Kessler — all political newcomers
–Republican write-in candidate Rick Grinnell – who’s run unsuccessfully for the Ward 2 City Council seat before in 1995 and 1999. He also sought to be appointed to that vacant seat last Spring, 2010 when Councilman Rodney Glassman resigned to run for the U.S. Senate.
–Political newcomer Daryl Peterson, also a Republican write-in candidate
