2:00 p.m. – UAAA Showcase on the mall
“How Pedro Almodóvar Conquered Hollywood”
Join Dr. Malcolm Compitello, Head of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, for a lively discussion about the evolution of the work of Spanish film director Pedro Almodóvar. Learn how this quirky, self-taught devotee of cinema went from underground filmmaker to global film icon. This presentation is part of the UA Alumni Association’s Homecoming Collegiate and Campus Showcase.
3:30 – 5:00 p.m. – Open House & Student Film Screening at the UA Poetry Center
Día de los Muertos – Altars & Elegies Exhibit
Visit the Poetry Center and take part in a community El Día de los Muertos display. On-site activities for all ages, refreshments, and free tours of the building will be available throughout the afternoon. Also, watch fun short-films from the Department of Spanish and Portuguese student film festival.
6:00 – Fiesta at El Charro Café Downtown
Are you a Spanish alum? Join us as we celebrate 100 years of the UA Spanish Department. Toast the department on this special anniversary alongside fellow alumni and faculty. Enjoy a fresh taco bar, live music, and an unforgettable fiesta in the colorful courtyard at El Charro Café Downtown.
