Resolve to make a New Year’s Resolution

Friday, December 31st, 2010

Here it is almost 1/1/11 (wow, great date) and time to think about New Year’s resolutions. Or is it?

If you feel guilty about making one, continue reading. If not, stop and just enjoy life.

I resolve to be…

I resolve to do…

I resolve to …

What?

Eat less & lose weight?

Help others more & be kinder, especially to the elderly?

Work harder or find work?

Be more loving?

Be more patient with your children?

Walk the dog every day?

Are we human beings or human “doings”? We are always doing something: singing, eating, performing, hiking, walking, bicycling, eating, sleeping, shopping, blogging, etc. etc.

Think about what is feasible, realistic, or pragmatic for a resolution, if you choose to have one for 2011.

Maybe it would be just better to say: forget it and don’t bother at all! “Eat, drink and be merry”… or see what Hugh Holub over at “Baja Arizona” has to say about resolutions (click here).

I remember a sign I saw back home in Hawaii that says “Smile, enjoy life.”
This sign is usually tacked onto trees or poles along the highways, by unknown, mysterious people (maybe menehune?). For a great photo of this sign see:

Well, maybe it is as simple as that…just resolve to smile more. Or enjoy life more.

Think about a resolution (even it is to strive for world peace and harmony), and resolve to do it even in small steps. Good luck in trying.

Smile & enjoy life!

And Happy New Year to all.

Be thankful on Thanksgiving

Thursday, November 25th, 2010

Be thankful on Thanksgiving:

– for living in the United States of America, a land of freedoms
– for the beautiful vistas & weather of Arizona and the Southwest
– for the lovely flowers blooming around you (even in November)
– for your family, friends, convivial associates and neighbors (community)
– for your health
– for your education & the teachers who inspired you
– for all your blessings (religious, spiritual, otherwise)
– for the ability to love

There lots to be thankful for today — Thursday, November 25, 2010. And be thankful you’re alive to read this. I am reflecting upon the friends and relatives who passed away this year and are no longer here on Earth to read this.

This is what I wrote last year for Thanksgiving (click here), and it still applies, even more so since my friend Hearing Officer Bill Beards has now departed. And the Tucsoncitizen.com is still thriving online, with new bloggers/citizen journalists.

May you enjoy today and your meal. Happy Thanksgiving!

Readers, what else are you thankful for? This week Hugh Holub (“View from Baja Arizona”) wrote a blog about the things you need to survive & be happy, and he mentions “a loving spouse” (click here.) And he goes on to say “And to whatever degree you have the things you need to survive…that’s what you have to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.”

Former House Rep. Randy Graf launches the Arizona News-Telegraph

Monday, October 18th, 2010

Former 2 term LD 30 State House Republican Rep. Randy Graf is the new editor of the online Arizona News-Telegraph, located in Green Valley. Randy told me they are concentrating on political news at the present, since he was covering the CD 8 U.S. House debate tonight at the UA Student Union. I asked him about his challenge against Democrat Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords back in 2006, and he said that “times had changed.”

Graf served in the State House from 2000 to 2004. In November 2006 Graf, Libertarian David Nolan (now running for U. S. Senate), and Independent Jay Quick (who just ran for this same race in the Republican primary) faced off with then-former LD 28 State Senator Giffords for that CD 8 U. S. House seat, previously held by Congressman Jim Kolbe.

Fellow TucsonCitizen.com bloggers Hugh Holub (“View from Baja Arizona”) and Jonathan DuHamel (“Wry Heat”) along with former Tucsoncitizen.com blogger Jim Kelley (“The Cholla Jumps”) have joined Randy as contributors on this new online news source for Southern Arizona. There is a “Green Valley/Sahuarita” link, along with links for the “Border”, Opinions, Event Calendar, & Comicals.
