This month, we invite you to take the opportunity to meet and converse with Senator Paula Aboud. Senator Aboud has served in the senate since January 2006 in the seat vacated by Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. She serves on three standing committees, the Health Committee, Education Committee and as the ranking Democratic member of the Appropriations Committee. As a graduate of the University of Arizona and a third-generation Tucsonan, Senator Aboud is committed to maintaining the quality of life for Arizona residents and especially for Southern Arizona.

and another “Meet me at the Library: Conversations with Arizona Leaders”

on Nov. 12, 2 p.m. at Quincie-Douglas Library, 1585 E. 36th St. (SW corner of Kino Pkway.)
She is also speaking at the Pima County/Tucson Women’s Commission on October 27 at 7 p.m. for their “How Government Works!” series.

Here’s your chance to meet both of these strong Arizona women political leaders.

Republican Matt Caldwell to kick off campaign for District 1 Pima County Supervisor

Monday, July 11th, 2011

Matt Caldwell is a political newcomer, who operates a flooring business, and recently in 2010 received his M.B.A. from the U of A Eller School of Business. He is originally from Illinois, and served in the U.S. Army.

His kick off event will be on July 14 at 5:30 p.m., at the Metropolitan Grill, 7892 N. Oracle Rd.

For more information, log onto his campaign website, www.caldwellforsupervisor.com, or email him at matt@caldwellforsupervisor.com or call 520-404-5264.

Caldwell may be challenging fellow Republican District 1 Pima County Supervisor Ann Day, who has served in that position since 2000, and was a State Senator prior to that for 10 years. For my previous blog about the Pima County Board of Supervisors, click here. All Board members are all up for re-election in 2012.

Other possible contenders in this Republican 2012 primary in District 1 may be 2 term LD 26 House Rep. Vic Williams, and businessman Joe Higgins, who received 47.19% of the vote in the 2008 primary race against Day (52.74%).

My understanding is that Supervisor Day will announce her plans for re-election (or not) in early August. She will be speaking on July 28, 6-7 p.m.
Where: Nanini Branch Library, 7300 N. Shannon Rd, as part of the “Meet Me at the Library: Conversations with Arizona Leaders program”.

The daughter of a pioneering ranching family, Supervisor Day grew up on the Lazy B Ranch in Eastern Arizona. The working cattle ranch was started by her grandfather in 1880, and was in her family for 114 years.

Meet Ramon Valadez, Chair of the Pima County Board of Supervisors

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

Meet Me at the Library: Conversations With Arizona Leaders - District 2 Pima County Supervisor Ramon Valadez

In March and April, take one of several opportunities to meet and talk with Pima County Supervisor Ramon Valadez. Valadez served in both the Arizona State House and Senate before being appointed to serve on the Pima County Board of Supervisors in September 2003, where he represents District 2. Supervisor Valadez brings a wealth of experience to his position on the board. A lifelong resident of Tucson, Supervisor Valadez has been actively involved in his community since high school. He has focused much of his time and energies on issues affecting children and youth in such important areas as education, youth employment, homelessness, crime prevention, health care and recreation.

For your chance to meet Supervisor Valdez, drop by any of these libraries:

For a recent radio interview on the Buckmaster Show (KJLL 1330 AM) on Feb. 16, 2011 – click here. Democrat Valadez speaks about the Pima County budget, RTA projects, civility in political discourse.
