The Sam Hughes Neighborhood Association (SHNA), in the Sam Hughes National Historic District, will present their home tour on Sunday, March 13 from 12-5 p.m.
The neighborhood, just east of the University of Arizona and anchored by Rincon Market and Himmel Park, will “feature a variety of home styles, gardens, artist studios, and new neighborhood businesses that will serve refreshments.” The latest update states that the tour will include “five houses, three home art studios, three non-profits (which will receive proceeds from our raffle), and three restaurants — new to the neighborhood.
Sam Hughes neighborhood boundaries are Campbell Ave. /Country Club Blvd. and Speedway Blvd./Broadway Blvd.
I’ve been on this tour in prior years and some of these historic, charming homes are gorgeous. New this year: black aprons with the Sam Hughes logo (it’s an embroidered strip depicting the varied housing styles here) will be on sale, made by one of the artists on the tour.
Proceeds from the tour (held every other year) go to neighborhood projects, but proceeds from the raffle will be divided among Himmel Park Branch Library, Literacy Volunteers of Tucson, and Tucson Alliance for Autism — which are on the tour in the neighorhood, and serving refreshments.
Admission: $15 ticket, $10 ticket for 2011 Sam Hughes Neighborhood Association members (dues must be current for discount).
