If you followed the recent U.S. Senate campaign here in Arizona, you know that incumbent U.S. Senator John McCain faced off with a Democrat (Rodney Glassman), a Green Party candidate (Jerry Joslyn) and also one from the Libertarian party. That candidate, David Nolan, 66, the founder of the National Libertarian Party who lived here in Tucson, passed away suddenly yesterday according to an article in the Arizona Daily Star. No cause of death has been determined. Reports now are that he had a stroke while driving his car and crashed his vehicle.

http://azstarnet.com/news/local/govt-and-politics/article_82150d54-f5e4-11df-9eac-001cc4c002e0.htm

A longer article is in today’s Star on page A2 (click here).

You can see his last public debate (October 14, 2009) on KUAT Channel 6, with Glassman and Joslyn, but without Senator McCain (click here). Nolan’s campaign website was: www.nolan2010.org.

Nolan received 80,097 votes (4.67%) in this recent U.S. Senate race. He ran before for CD 8 U.S. House as well in November, 2006, losing to Democrat Gabrielle Giffords.

His biography from his website:

David F. Nolan is the principal founder of America’s largest and most successful third party, the Libertarian Party.

He holds a degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and enjoyed a successful four-decade career in advertising, marketing and publishing.

In 1970, he created a new map of the political world that has all but replaced the old-fashioned left-right linear model. A Google search for the phrase “Nolan Chart” recently turned up 350,000 references!

This groundbreaking achievement earned Mr. Nolan a listing in 2,000 Outstanding Intellectuals of the 20th Century, published by the International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England.

David lives in Tucson with his wife Elizabeth.
