Popular Tucson Folk Festival in 28th Year

May 5, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

TKMA stands for Tucson Kitchen Musicians Association. This folk festival is open and free to all.

The center of Festival activity, including the TKMA Kitchen Store and food & craft vendors, is in El Presidio Park in downtown Tucson. All venues are easy walking distance from the Park. Performances take place on the following stages:

Plaza Stage at City Hall
Courtyard Stage at the Old Pima County Courthouse
Museum Stage at the Tucson Museum of Art
Old Town Artisans Stage

This year, we will again feature the Young Artists’ Stage in a special time slot on one of the regular stages. The festival will again include a Ballad Tree, and the Acoustic Showcase which was a great success in 2009, its inaugural year, will also return to the Museum of Art lobby. All venues are within easy walking distance from the corner of Church and Alameda.

Prepare yourself for an unforgettable evening of live music, hilarious comedy, fabulous prizes and exciting surprises at Loft Aid! The Loft Cinema is “Building for the Future” and some of Tucson’s best local artists are helping us raise the necessary funds to ensure that The Loft will move into the future with state-of-the-art digital technology, comfortable seating, fully accessible theatres and more! Great entertainment, great food and drink and a guaranteed great time await you at Loft Aid, so don’t be the only person on your block who doesn’t head over to La Cocina for this blow-out party benefiting your favorite non-profit, community-supported, independent cinema.

It’ll be just like Farm Aid, only without all the tractors!

Hey all you Loft patrons, donors, volunteers, staff, etc, plus all you music lovers — this sounds like a great combination of food, fun and great music, all to help out the independent Loft Theater. Aid the Loft by attending Loft Aid. As one of their longest serving volunteers (since Fall 2008) I recently was awarded a Best Blogger gift bag at our Volunteer Appreciation party.  So I truly believe in aiding the Loft.

Downtown Parade of Lights on December 15

Where:
Parade starts at Franklin St. (south of E. 6th Street) and proceeds south on Granada (click here for map route), east on Alameda, north on Stone Ave.

The Downtown Tucson Partnership invites you to participate in the 18th Annual Downtown Parade of Lights. Floats, live music and brightly decorated vehicles will fill Downtown Tucson with holiday cheer. Thousands will once again pack the streets to watch the Parade make its way through the vibrant streets of Downtown Tucson.

The parade route has changed its location from Armory Park to the El Presidio neighborhood. Please download the new route and enjoy all the businesses along the route that evening.

The Tucson Museum of Art and Lohse Family YMCA will be providing pre-parade entertainment that evening. Visit El Charro Cafe and Old Town Artisans before the parade and end the evening with dancing at La Cocina.

Staging will take place along the north and south side of Franklin Street, the east and west side of Meyer Avenue, 9th Avenue and the Franklin Lot. Staging begins at 4:30pm.

Mayor Jonathan Rothschild will light the tree in front of the Joel Valdez Main Library at 5:45 p.m.

Enjoy this 18th year of the Parade of Lights in downtown.
