Pennington Street Block Party

Celebrate youth! Celebrate community! Join us for the 5th annual Pennington Street Block Party on Friday, April 26, 2013 from 4:00-7:00 p.m.

A family-friendly event in the heart of Downtown Tucson celebrating what young people do to make our community a better place. Fun for all ages! Musical performances, teaching demos, interactive booths, one-act plays, art exhibits, carnival games, and more. An annual event showcasing youth creativity, learning, and service, as part of Global Youth Service Day.

I’ve been to this block party in the past, and it’s wonderful to see such engaged, enthusiastic students doing surveys, projects, etc. to educate and inform the public about issues they care about such as immigration, health, art. Photos of past block party events on their website, as well as a list of this year’s exhibitors. Pennington Street is between Stone Ave. and 6th Avenue, between Alameda and Congress in downtown Tucson.

Last week Tuesday the Pima County Board of Supervisors declared April 26 to 28 to be “Global Youth Service Days” to encourage youth ages 5 to 25 to participate in service projects around Southern Arizona.

My husband and I have been to this urban block party in the past, and have enjoyed the teens’ enthusiasm and creativity, with art, performances & their quest for knowledge. Pennington Street is usually closed between Stone Avenue and Scott Avenue for this event, which is located west of 6th Avenue downtown.
