The Arizona clean Elections Commission has been holding debates for the various Legislative District races throughout Arizona. If you missed any in person, go to their website to view them online (click here).

The Southern AZ debate schedule is here from my previous blog post.

Coming up next week on October 10 is one of the more hotly contested races with 2 Democrats (one incumbent, one newcomer) and 2 Republicans (one incumbent, one newcomer) facing off for 2 seats in LD 10 House. LD 28 Rep. Bruce Wheeler (D) and LD 30 Rep. Ted Vogt (R) are the incumbents. Only Clodfelter is a Clean Elections participant.

Campaign websites:
–Todd Clodfelter (R), President of 3D Inc. which owns and operates Ace Graphics and 3D Teez, a graphics design, consulting and printing business, www.TC4AZ.com
–Stefanie Mach (D), former Americorps volunteer, business consultant, www.stefaniemach.com

LD 30 Rep. Ted Vogt

LD 28 Rep. Bruce Wheeler

In the LD 10 State Senate race there is no Clean Elections debate scheduled as both candidates are running traditionally. Former 4 term LD 28 House Rep. David Bradley (who ran & lost in Nov. 2010 for statewide Corporation Commission) is facing LD 30 Senator Frank Antenori, who has served in that seat for over 2 and a half years. Senator Antenori recently ran for CD 8 House and came in 3rd in a 4 way special Republican primary in April, 2012. He had also previously run for that same seat & lost back in the 5 way Republican primary of September 2006.

Campaign websites:
Frank Antenori (R), www.vote4frank.com
David Bradley (D), www.bradleyforarizona.com

To hear Antenori vs. Bradley debate on the Buckmaster radio Show, click here.

At yesterday’s Pima Council on Aging’s two-hour legislative forum for LD 10, Senator Antenori, former House Rep. David Bradley, House Rep. Ted Vogt, and Todd Clodfelter attended & fielded prepared questions on aging in place, grandparents raising grandchildren, keeping older Arizonans healthy. They also addressed audience questions about affordable & available health insurance, higher paying jobs & retraining Seniors, help from nonprofits/churches, charitable contributions, health care exchanges, the mental health population, poverty levels, & their own personal health insurance plans. Mach & Wheeler did not attend.

Voter registration totals in LD 10 (D/R/L/G/AEL/Others/Total) from Pima County Recorder’s Office website:
DISTRICT 10: 41,844/ 38,227/ 834/ 292/ 8/ 32,971/ 114,176

Voter wisely on or before Nov. 6.

UPDATE: Wednesday, October 24, 7:00 p.m.: Drinking Liberally hosts an LD 10 Senate debate between Sen. Frank Antenori and former Rep. David Bradley, at The Shanty, 401 E. 9th Street (at 4th Avenue).

Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission meets on June 30 in Tucson

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

If you care about how the new Congressional and state legislative districts in Arizona are drawn (based on 2010 Census changes), then you might want to attend the upcoming meeting of the AIRC (Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission). Based on population increase, Arizona is supposed to get an additional Congressional District seat in the U.S. Congress. Next meeting of the AIRC in Tucson:

Thursday June 30, 1 p.m. at

Pima Community College – District Office
4905 E. Broadway Blvd.
Building “C” Room #105
Tucson, AZ 85709 (West of Rosemont Blvd)

I reported about this AIRC when they met earlier this month on June 15 in Oro Valley (click here), and I attended a May AIRC meeting in Tucson at the UA Student Union. You can also watch the meetings via Live Stream (usually) at their website: www.azredistricting.org. And there is always a Call for Public Comment period in which members of the public can provide input.

The June 30 agenda indicates a presentation by their mapping consultant.

The Commission meets mostly in Phoenix, so this is another chance for Tucsonans to watch the process live, and participate if they chose to.

Note: I personally know Commissioner Rick Stertz having served as Co-chair with him years ago on a neighborhood Zoning/Land Use committee.

LD 27 House debate: vote for 2 of these 8 Democratic candidates

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

Arizona Citizens Clean Elections Commission has posted online the July 8 debate for LD 27 State House, where there are now eight (yes, eight!) candidates vying for 2 seats in this Democratic primary on August 24. This is probably the most crowded of all the races.

The two current Democratic legislators for LD 27 Representatives Phil Lopes and Olivia Cajero Bedford are termed out (but Ms. Cajero Bedford is running for State Senate in LD 27).

I’ve reported about the last debate between these contenders in May (click here), but former state legislator John Kromko joined the group thereafter.
All are participating as “clean” election candidates (indicated by the C below), except for Dustin Cox, running traditional (T).

View the debate online (click here) and decide for yourself between all these hopefuls:

John Martin Bernal (C)
Eric Bustamante (C)
Dustin Cox (T)
Bob Gilby (C)
Sally Ann Gonzales (C), former legislator
Sami Hamed (C)
John Kromko (C), former legislator
Dr. Macario Saldate (C)

This debate was held on July 8 at 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM, at the Pima Community College District Office Community Board Room, at 4905 E Broadway.
