Bill Buckmaster, radio talk show host of the Buckmaster Show on KVOI 1030 AM interviewed Congressman Raul Grijalva today, and he announced that he will seek re-election in 2012. Sarah Garrecht Gassen of the Arizona Daily Star joined Bill in conducting the interview.

Grijalva is in his 5th term representing CD 7, serving since January 2003. He faced a tough bid last year against political newcomer physicist Ruth McClung, winning by 9550 votes. There was also a Libertarian George Keane and Independent/Nonpartisan Harley Meyer running in that race in November, 2010.

Two Republicans are already listed on the Pima County GOP website as running for this CD 7 seat:
Chris Flowers, and Gabby Saucedo Mercer, whose announcement I attended back in March (click here for previous blog).

Congressional District 7 will be subject to redistricting by the Arizona Independent
Redistricting Commission (due to population increase in Arizona from the 2010 Census). The first round of public hearings are being conducted by the Commission throughout Arizona, with the next one scheduled for August 15 in Casa Grande. Two public hearings were held recently in South Tucson/Tucson on August 2 and 6.

As reported on Monday January 3rd, former KUAT Channel 6 TV host Bill Buckmaster has kicked off his new radio talk show on KJLL “The Jolt” 1330 AM radio.

Today January 7, his premiere “Media Meat” political discussion weekly show was hosted by himself with Jim Nintzel of the Tucson Weekly, and Sarah Garrecht Gassen of the Arizona Daily Star, and Dan Shearer of Green Valley News and Sahuarita Sun. These editors/reporters used to join him on the Friday Roundtable on KUAT, along with Linda Valdez of the Arizona Republic, Mark Evans of our Tucsoncitizen.com, and John C. Scott of KJLL radio.

All of these 6 reporters/editors are now his media “host contributors” on this radio show (click here). (I’ve highlighted Evans’ bio/photo below since he is our online Editor, and worked for the print edition of Tucson Citizen, which shut down on May 16, 2009).

And you listen to the radio shows live on www.buckmastershow.com, or thereafter by Standard Podcast. Today’s reporters/editors discuss ethnic studies, the state budget, flags in Green Valley, Rio Nuevo, Shaun McClusky’s candidacy for Mayor of Tucson.

Click here for today’s show, which also includes “Friday Focus” interviews of LD 28 Democratic House Rep. Steve Farley (now State House Assistant Minority Leader) and former Pima County Republican Party Chair Bob Westerman. (Former CD 8 U.S. House candidate Brian Miller is the new Chair).

Buckmaster’s new one hour radio show airs at 9 .m. Monday to Friday, and is re-broadcast at 7 p.m. Stay tuned for next week’s schedule of interviews and
more of “Media Meat”. (I hear this title has been changed to “Reporters’ Roundtable on the Radio”).

See the interview by clicking here.

AZ Illustrated host Bill Buckmaster and Sarah Garrecht Gassen from the Arizona Daily Star newspaper interviewed these two men.

Jerry Joslyn’s website: www.joslynforsenate.com
David Nolan’s website: www.nolan2010.org
Both hopefuls are former businessmen with political activist backgrounds.

These two candidates will be included in forums/debates once the August 24 primary is held, and the Arizona Democratic Party and Arizona Republican Party have their nominees. Well known U. S. Senator John McCain is the incumbent in this race, and is up for re-election, facing two Republican challengers. And there are 4 candidates vying for the Democratic nomination.

Stay tuned after the August 24 Arizona primary, only a month away.
