Compound Captive - Missives about life, retirement and HOAs

Sure bring them here, what could possibly go wrong?

by on Nov. 15, 2009, under Politics

The accused mastermind of the September 11 attacks and his four co-conspirators will be sent to New York for trial in a court near the site of the World Trade Center. What could possibly go wrong with that scenario?

Civil liberties advocates hailed the decision to transfer the men to criminal courts in New York. Gee, what a surprise.

The U.S. Attorney General, Eric Holder, expressed complete confidence in his decision. And yet another shocking statement.

Is it any wonder that people living in and around New York were angry at the idea of these men being relocated to a city that was traumatized by the terror attack eight years ago? Many in the area voiced their opinions stating that the best place to hold their trial would be in military tribunals because they’re terrorism suspects. The latter seems to be a plausible initiative. Bringing them back onto United States soil could likely be seen as an insult to those who lost relatives and loved ones in the attack. Why would anyone want them housed in a detention facility in close proximity to their home?

So, do you think King George should face trial in The Hague or in Iraq?  I would imagine that the people of Iraq might be traumatized by returning the terrorist to the scene of his crimes; don’t you?  Probably would be hard to find an untainted jury though, and it certainly would be an insult to the hundreds of thousands of dead Iraqis.  Then again, I guess they wouldn’t need to have a jury.  They could just set up one of them “tribunals” and throw the law out the window.  Of course, if George could come up with any WMD’s, they might just let him off.

This may be one of the few times when the old Wild West rule of law could come in handy–give him a fair trial and then hang him…

Understandably, Republicans will be afraid of the big bad terrorists – but most of us have confidence in our countries ability to hold a fair trial.

It’s foolish to assume that someone who wants to die won’t use whatever creative measures are necessary to make it happen while taking out as many “infidels’ as possible in the process.
That fair trial thing works out real well for the Hollywood crowd. they sure don’t get any special treatment. The same goes for diplomats, etc.

Yes, we “Hollywood types” who aren’t peeing in our pants in fear of those scary scary terrorists.
