Internet getting consideration for the Nobel Peace Prize

Perfect!

I suppose the committee figured after last year’s award then anything and anyone should be fair game….

If conservatives ever did anything worth honoring they could win the prize too.
It’s just when your ideology is “I’m all right jack, screw everyone else” you rarely get the grateful appreciation of hte people you haven’t helped ;)

You probably aren’t aware of it, but you effectively agreed with the premise that even nominating the Internet for a Nobel Peace Prize is remarkably lame….

I believe there may be more to the story than is being presented here.

I also believe that the Nobel Prize could easily be made whole again in the eyes of the right if, say, Karl Rove were to be nominated.   Suddenly, it would be OK again to win a Peace Prize.

    • compoundcaptive

No, it’s fairly straightforward. A former Nobel Prize winner nominated the Internet for a Nobel Prize.
We can create a nearly inexhaustible list of nut jobs for consideration, but doing so only further degrades
      the value of the award.

That was done long ago. As Tom Lehrer observed, satire is dead since the gave the Nobel Peace Prize to Henry Kissinger ;)

The recipient does not have to be a human being?

        • compoundcaptive

Then why bother if the recipient isn’t aware or appreciative of its presumed contribution?

          • leftfield

That was a question.  I assumed the prize was only for living beings.

            • compoundcaptive

Sorry about that–I didn’t interpret it as a question.
I, too, assumed the prize was for living being.
The notion of giving such recognition to something innate seems counterproductive and diminishes its value for future living recipients.

The internet itself is Nobel worthy, some of the sites?… ;)
The information superhighway is as promised.(finally) Now if I could just find those fender flares for my ATV. :)
