Deciphering a snippet of the State of the Union address

Friday, February 10th, 2012

Never one to miss an opportunity, President Barack Obama offered his perception of the truth in his recent State of the Union address.
The president didn’t lie, he simply omitted some important facts that would have undermined his broad claims of success in a particularly high profile area.

Let’s use the auto industry as an example. Here’s what he said about the auto industry followed by what he “forgot” to say.

He said on the day I took office, our auto industry was on the verge of collapse. We got workers and automakers to settle their differences. We got the industry to retool and restructure. Today, General Motors is back on top as the world’s number one automaker. Chrysler has grown faster in the U.S. than any major car company. Ford is investing billions in U.S. plants and factories. And together, the entire industry added nearly 160,000 jobs.

He forgot to mention that the GM bailout process was initiated under President George W. Bush, and the success at Ford Motor Company was accomplished without any government action; the company didn’t take any government assistance. Yes, some jobs were saved, but overall the auto industry lost in excess of 200,000 workers. He also omitted the cost of the bailout to the American taxpayer. Considering the total cost of the national investment, the government has to sell its shares at $53 each to break even. GM stock is currently trading at around $25 a share, leaving the U.S. taxpayers $14 billion in this financial abyss.

Interesting how politicians can take a seemingly straightforward topic and spin it into something entirely different…

Go ahead, but we’re watching you

The use of GPS devices for tracking people and things is on the brink to becoming routine.
We’re teetering on the verge of a revolution that will allow us to locate and track every person and physical object regardless of where its located on the planet. This new technology can be used for both positive and negative initiatives, depending upon whose using it and their personal objectives.

For example, a positive use would be locating a lost hiker, finding a stolen vehicle, and the possibilities are virtually limitless.
Unfortunately, this opens the door for potential abuse and use for unscrupulous actions.

The reality that Big Brother will have the capability for tracking even the clothing you’re wearing is a direct flashback from “1984.”
Fortunately, the Supreme Court made a recent ruling limiting the police use of GPS tracking devices thereby precluding, at least to the time being, yet another encroachment on our personal freedom by the current administration. Given the fact that we’re now living in a time of radical encroachment on personal freedom, the feds aren’t likely to shelve their intent to spy on everything and everyone they choose. In effect, we’re moving toward a surveillance society. If the wrong Supreme Court justice is appointed, we, the people, will become nothing more than we, the spied upon.

Interestingly, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is prepared to approve operations for an arsenal of small helicopter spy drones for use by local police in a number of cities around the country. The manufacturer, AeroVironment Inc. has another device being specifically designed and built for law enforcement agencies. This miniature sized helicopter weighs a mere 5.5 pounds and fits easily into a police patrol vehicle. The estimated cost will be at least $40,000. This company is developing bird-sized spy drones that will, within a couple of years, be produced that are no larger than a common house fly.

Finally, and you may find this one hard to believe but you can check it out for confirmation, there’s “talking underwear” in the research and development stage thanks to a team of snoop-a-phoebes working in the Pentagon. I don’t even like my talkative, interactive GPS device that sits on my dashboard and helps me become reoriented toward home at times. So the last thing I need or want is a life of living in Snoopville for my remaining days.

Yeah, you’d better prepare to loosen your grip on personal freedom because if the feds have it their way, not a single person or thing on the planet will be off limits for snooping and surveillance technology. I doubt the Founding Fathers would be real cozy with this one, and you shouldn’t either. Smile and say something clever, you never know when someone from Washington might be watching and listening to the way you’re handling your Constitutionally guaranteed personal freedom…

Land of the free, more or less

Silencing all forms of critical opposition has been and will likely remain an objective of political scoundrels with something to hide. This form of initiative actually highlights the fact that they fear the truth, or some aspects of it.

A perfect example of this abused of power can be seen in the use of unelected “Czars” to achieve an objective without becoming directly entangled in it. The president seems to be intent on obliterating the First Amendment.  Google quickly found an answer that would resolve the problem for the time being, use servers outside the country.

What happened to the land of the free? Increased dependence on foreign oil will be become an even more dominant factor with the recent rejection of the Keystone pipeline project, but the administration isn’t satisfied with that potentially detrimental decision. The next action in their sites is regulating US oil company profits. But the real problem is the broad scope of potential actions the government may take if they decide dislike you; your personal choices such as politics, consumer business dealings, your line of work, etc. could be regulated under the false guise of being for “the common good.” Once again the feds know best what’s good for you even through they will never ask for you opinion or input.

Another such action is the absurd one that Pelosi is pushing knon as Obamachildcare. This action, if enacted, would mandate that all toddlers to school age children be enrolled in government childcare thereby forcing private childcare companies out of business via ultra-intrusive, massive regulations. This would essentially provide the liberal and socialist crowd with  cradle to grave indoctrination and intrusive oversight resulting in robotic, compliant, mindless minions serving the leaders of the United Socialists of America.

Freedom could become a fleeting memory if we don’t correct the current course being directed in Washington…
