Get in the Kitchen Bit@hes: This Ain’t Your Grandma’s Cookbook

by on Apr. 24, 2010, under Uncategorized

Get in the Kitchen Bit@hes by Jason Bailin (Whipped & Beaten Culinary Works, $12.95)
Not many cookbooks have cautionary warnings or statements that much of the content is politically correct. This one is an exception. With recipes such as “Poke Me! Pork,” “Chicken With Fungus,” and “Love You Long Time Pork Ribs,” and risqué cover, as Bailin points out, “This ain’t your grandma’s cookbook.” Indeed.
This amusing collection is divided into six main categories: Entrees, Appetizers, Sides, Meal and Luncheon Salads, Soups and Stews, and Homemade Salad Dressings. In addition to the listed warnings and statements, there are handy lists of spices, frozen veggies, pastas and rice, and condiment to keep on hand. The illustrations that are scattered throughout the 112-page book are worth the #12.95 price of admission.
Although much of this book is done with Bailin’s tongue planted firmly in his cheek, the recipes are valid and some are quite good. Three were tested. The “On Your Knees! Chicken” was quite good and featured a lemon white wine butter sauce. The “Ppicy Young Thang Meatload” was zingy, and the “Homemade Italian Dressing” is definitely a keeper.
This dandy little cookbook can be ordered through its Website, www.bitchcooks.com.
