French government subsidies nuclear power along with all forms of energy production (socialism?) Very difficult to do it here without subsidies, due to the very large initial investment and liability.
While I don't entierly dismiss the idea, it should be our last resort, at least for the time being
As for Al Malvin, he is smart trying to frame the issue even if his message is wrong (in my view)

leftfield,
typical going with the personal attacks when you have never met the guy. Melvin has done more for this country than you"ll ever do. You probably sit at home all day complaining how bad the world is but you wont get you fat ass off the couch to do anything about it. Why don't you come up with a way to power this country that sustainable (wind and solar only go so far) since you're obviously a genius! ohh wait your moral clarity and keen sense of character are probably too much for you to handle. So instead of bashing people whome youve never met about there immoral behavior and sexual status why don't you go run for office? go ahead, you go show em how its done!!!!

No, I won't be gettin' any of that old timey religion. I am a person of moral persuasion, though I remain a putz.

More to your point, what does France do with their nuclear waste? This seems to me to be the problem here; what to do with something that is dangerous and will be around for thousands of years.

France has abundant nuclear energy that is safe and provides over 75% of the electrical needs of that country. It ain't your '70's nuclear power plant technology. Nuclear is just one of many modalities to harness clean energy, which also includes solar and wind. Some legislative tax relief for average citizens to install energy efficient appliances and perhaps solar electric might help as well. As for leftfield...maybe if you were more of a religious/moral person of whatever persuasion, you might be less of a putz.

I'm gonna go way out on a limb here, and guess that he's a "good christian", too. Of course, this means he cheats on his wife and is homophobic, but those things don't generally show up in a biography; at least until he gets caught in a men's room with his pants down.

How Republican, you ask?

Biography

Personal Information: Home City: Tucson Occupation: College Adjunct Teacher; Trade and Transportation ConsultantMember Since: 2009 Senator Al Melvin, Republican for District 26, is committed to serving the people of Southern Arizona. As an educator, businessman, and veteran, he is committed to bringing vision, integrity and leadership to the Arizona State Senate. Originally from Helena, Montana, Al is a graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY; the Naval War College, Newport, RI; and the American Graduate School of International Management, Thunderbird Campus in Glendale, Arizona. In 1999, after 30 years of reserve military service, Al retired as a Captain, U.S.N.R. One of his last duty assignments was Squadron Commander of MPS 2 at Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.

Look at the picture and combine this with his district (Oro Valley -doesn't get any whiter than that!), his military and business career. If he were any whiter and any more Republican, I'd think he was Fort Buckley in disguise.
