Dispatch From The Wisconsin Class Warby Art Jacobson on Mar. 04, 2011, under Politics
I imagine that readers who are following the events in Wisconsin may have seen what follows. If not, it’s worth a minute of your time.
First Governor Walker institutes millions of dollars in tax cuts. Then he is shocked to discover the state has a budget shortfall. Who could be responsible? Well, greedy public employees, of course. The solution is obvious…balance the budget on the backs of the providers of public services to the citizens of the state of Wisconsin. Apparently Walker is a man with no sense of shame.
Across the nation, public employees of equal levels of education and training are paid less than their counterparts in private industry. It is simply outrageous that we live under a system where major corporations, like Bank of America, pay no federal income tax and the working class is expected to take up the slack caused by Republican tax breaks.
