The Star Chickens Out: Spikes Doonesbury

by on Mar. 13, 2012, under Arizona Daily Star, Christian Taliban, Doonesbury, Fundamentalism, GOP, Journalism

I have to admit I’m surprised, but apparently the Arizona Daily Star has decided that Trudeau’s current Doonesbury sequence would be just too much for the delicate sensibilities of the Christian conservatives in our midst.

It’s odd that those folks who have no hesitancy in trying to force their views on the rest of us are so tender-minded that they have to be protected against criticism by comic strip.

Perhaps the Star published an explanation for cutting this week’s Doonesbury and I missed it…but I bet they didn’t even have the courage to do that. (If I’m wrong I’m sure that some Citizen reader will point it out.)

You can read yesterday’s strip here. And don’t miss the scarlet A on the back of the woman’s clip board.

In today’s strip she meets Sid Patrick, one of the sponsors of the Texas sonogram bill. Insert your cursor here.

I’m amazed newspapers are censoring this. Here’s the 2nd in the series.

Good catch that you noted the scarlet “A” on the medical office’s clipboard.  Here’s the wikipedia link to Nathaniel Hawthorne’s 1850 book (which I read):

Amazingly gutless. I would cancel my subscription, if I ever thought they were worth subscribing to in the first place.

Worthless rag. I have canceled my subscription.

And they wonder why mainstream media is dying…buy a clue, cowards!

Ah yes, it is so comforting to know the Star is protecting (censoring) me from such dangerous information. What a rag!

I spoke to my brother, who takes the paper, and he wasn’t even aware that Doonesbury was being censored. They have been running old Doonesbury’s in it’s slot and ahven’t told their readers what they are doing.

That is really reprehensible journalism – if they are going to censor something they should at least tell their readers.

Any respect I had for them is gone.

Doonesbury draws using a ”xerox” and is the definition of “fluffer” for B.O.

Join the Grasshopper nation! Belly ache that your government has started taking wepons away from soldiers in combat zones when administrators arrive.

More worthless by the day, we stopped our subscription in october too. Except for Tony Davis’s articles and Fitz’s humor, not worth the money

We are in real trouble in this country when religious zealots are allowed yo censor our comic strips.I’m ashamed that my home town has such a newspaper.

Doonesbury belongs on the Editorial Page not the Comics and they should also have Mallard Filmore to balance it.
