The Data Port has let the primary frenzy wash by without comment; but now, at last, the end is in sight and we can  rejoin the fray.

The political rhetoric of the past weeks, burying us under numberless annoying robo-calls; colorful junk mailers; intrusive television ads; and e-mails whining for contributions has turned as many people off of politics as it has turned on. I doubt it convinced anyone of anything they were’t already convinced of.

Things won’t get any better, but if the past months are indicators we may at least expect an occasional moment of hilarity and mirth. We intend to seek out such occasions in the weeks to come.

Romney’s enthusiastic  introduction of his running mate as the “next President of the United States” and Governor Brewer’s endorsement of President Obama were worth a chuckle…amusing examples of “misspeaking.”

There was nothing mirthful or “misspoken”  about Todd Akin’s views on rape and human female reproductive machinery; but his defense and apology had the blogosphere giggling over his web site’s struggle with a dangerous homophone: the contraction of “you are.”

Readers were urged to “Tell McCaskill that your standing with Todd Akin!” Well that wouldn’t do, so it was quickly corrected: “Your” became “Your’re.” The third try was the charm and “you’re” popped up on the website.

Finally I have to say I feel a little sad for George W. Bush (Whisper….the immediate past President) who has been dropped into the Republican “Un-Person Machine.” He and his war no longer exist.

Sigh.
