I hope readers will remember former Secretary of State Colin Powell.

Powell, depending on “intelligence” given him by the Bush administration stood up in the United Nations and lied about the existence of weapons of mass destruction. His career survived; his honor and competence were unblemished.

Susan Rice, depending on intelligence she had no occasion to believe was untrue gave what turned out to be a false account of the Benghazi attack.

She will not be the Secretary of State thanks to a group of small-minded Republican senators who are merely using her as a continuing opportunity to frustrate Obama for its own sake. Nothing good for the nation comes from frustration for frustration’s sake. These people spent four years trying to defeat him and will probably never get over the fact that they failed.

The Republicans should stop fighting an election they’ve already lost and concentrate on what’s best for the nation, instead.

I’m not too optimistic.
