Colder weather can wreck relationships
Tis the season to have relationship problems – or at least that can be the case as the weather turns ugly and we enter the realm of holiday cheer.
How ironic.

Winter clothes often lack allure/Ryn Gargulinski
Sure, the winter weather can make for some fine snuggling – my two rats that are notorious for scuffling are now snuggle buddies – but it can also put drain and strain on even the best relationships.
Colder weather means big fat clothes. Even if we’re not stuck in pounds-adding snow pants for the winter season, other fashions can make us appear less than sexy. Like bulky, shapeless sweaters. Hair-smashing hats. Scarves that get dribbled with drool and gravy. We feel – and look – much more alluring in a sundress or a tank top and cut-offs.
The sun doth dim. Winter weather means less sunshine. Where it used to stay lit until late, the sun now goes down before 6 p.m.
Less sunshine means crummy moods and, for the very unlucky, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). SAD, sadly, is not a myth but a condition that can plunge us into depression. It’s hard to be nice to your mate when it feels like the world is one big blah.
Cabin fever and the not-so-great indoors adds to relationship strain. We may find ourselves cooped up from the cold. Especially if we live with our significant other, this can lead to intense annoyance and cranky spats.
It can also lead to lethargy, boredom and fighting just so there is something exciting to do.
Big fat clothes sometimes means big fat us. Comfort food definitely warms our souls during cooler temperatures, but it can also pad our thighs.
Chicken pot pies, hearty stews and buttery biscuits sopped in gravy are just a few of the chunky choices that come to mind.
Holiday cheer is often not so cheery. Some may sing along to Jingle Bells while others will inwardly cringe. Holidays can send lots of folks into a funk, especially when the relationship is already strained.
Add the crappy economy to the mix and you’re ready for a rumble. Some people may even break up on purpose during this time so they are not obligated to give an expensive gift. Besides, you may also have to visit in-laws. That, too, can be a fight waiting to happen.
While we can wallow in our extra weight and gooey beef stew, we can also get out, get a HappyLight and still eat healthy to stay sexy to help combat these hefty strains on our relationships.
Do you squabble more with your significant other once the colder weather hits?
Are you in the 0.0001 percent of folks who actually look sexy in a padded jacket?
Do you find ski masks alluring?
Are the holidays the best time to fight so you don’t have to buy a gift?

I’m always ready for a break from the heat! Then, I get tired of the cold about springtime, and I’m ready to do summer again. Wonderful cycle, ain’t it? Winter is great for snuggling in front of the fire, or tubing in the snow on Mt. Lemmon. Alas, my gal is a chilly-willy, and hates cold weather, but I’m workin’ on it.

I just hibernate for a few months, like many wise animals.
Wake me when it’s over.

hibernation rocks.

I agree with Maxxie, we need a break from the heat, plus the winters are so mild here. In my lifetime of Christmas pictures, three-fourths of the time I’m wearing shorts in the pics.
Radmax, just wait till your lady friend starts going through menopause and gets hot flashes. She’ll be grateful when the cooler weather hits then! LOL
I sleep with no covers and my bedroom window wide open!

Menopause, eeek!
Hi az! Yeah, I always sleep better when the chill hits, and JT, it is dang hard to get up when the bed seems so cozy!(’specially at five am)

I love winters here!! I love being able to cuddle up under a blanket with my man and watch a good flick.
Nights are a bit chilly in my house, as I love to cover up with a nice thick comforter and bask in the warmth. I never seem to want to get up in the morning, haha. My Fat Kitty likes to lay on my chest or back, so he adds a bit of extra toastiness! Winter is my fav season!!!

phoebe likes to lie on my head and sawyer likes to lie ACROSS the whole bed, so i am usually being suffocated while shoved off the mattress…hahahah.
yes, cozy indeed!

Good morning Ryn! and of course mouse and radmax!
No romance to ruin here but I am looking forward to the woman who owns this fashion accessory: “Scarves that get dribbled with drool and gravy.” Yikes!
I love this season – all the license plates turning colors, great flocks of Winnabego’s coming down from the north, turn blinkers decorating cars that have no intention to turn . . .
Ahhhhhh

Top o’ the morn to ya Andrew! This burg is always an adventure to drive in, no matter the season.

Hi Andrew,
LOL!
Love your description of snowbird season. lol
Of course, for us hair stylists, we really cash in this time of year fixing all that blue hair.
November 19th, 2009 on 3:32 pm

hiya andrew -
i will be honest and say i was wearing a scarf this morning that – sure enough! – ended up getting some of my lunch on it – hahhaha. the scarf is now in the wash and thankfully i took it off once i immediately saw it.
the code name for those cars with turn signals for no reason: blinker boys.
thanks for laugh!

Hmmm… I have a different notion of cold weather and romance.
A million moons ago, I was in Austria during the winter and found that the ancient castle I was staying in didn’t have central heating in many of the opened bedrooms. Piling on just about every spare piece of clothing from my suitcase didn’t help. I was still cold, a bone chilling kinda of cold that I’ve yet to encounter again.
To the rescue came a dear boy friend who was freezing in his own room down the hall. After much lamentation and and wondering if our frozen bodies would be found before spring, we sprang into action. We pulled the drapes off the windows and draping them on my bed, we then draped his blankets over the top of the poster bed and created quite a cozy little spot where we both giggled, ate bad versions of American junk food and listened to music from his walkman. (Yes, it was that long ago.) Anyway, once inside, the need for clothes kinda disappeared, and romance blossomed. Suddenly, “cold” wasn’t so bad anymore.
I’m voting that cold weather and romance is a snappy thing Ryn, or at least a snuggly-kinda-fun-thing. (I know I know… not what today’s snappy/crappy item, but I’m going to do it anyway.)

marie!
what a wonderful story – a castle, a prince, a walkman = a true-life gothic romance tale…i love it!
very sweet. thanks for input and sharing the tale…and voting snappy on winter romance. i think any topic is up for a snappy/crappy vote, so feel free to do so!

I agree, great story! I appreciate it allot when people aren’t afraid to tell their interesting but semi-private stories.

Hi Ryn – as a fellow Michigander, I was surprised to hear that you’re also from the Frozen Mitten. Where in Michigan?
