Dorian Bryan, 62, was shot and killed by police after an extended standoff on Aug. 11, according to a news release from the Tucson Police Department.
Police were called to Bryan’s home in the 2900 block of East Third Street for a welfare check at 1:40 p.m. with the report of a man threatening to kill himself and others. They found Bryan in the front yard with a handgun and told him to drop his weapon.
Rather than complying, the release said, Bryan barricaded himself in his home. Police found Bryan’s criminal history included using dangerous weapons and they evacuated surrounding homes and called in SWAT and Hostage Negotiations personnel.
After seven and one-half hours of failed negotiations, the SWAT officers “began to utilize a wide range of tactics to resolve the standoff,” the release said.

Officers Chris Potter, a 16-year veteran, John Malovich, a 10-year veteran, and James Brady, a 6-year veteran responded to the lethal threat by returning fire, fatally wounding Mr. Bryan,” the release said.

treated and released from an area hospital.
“Detectives from the Crimes Against Persons Division and the Office of Professional Standards are investigating this matter,” the release explains. ” The Pima County Attorney’s Office and a Department Board of Inquiry will review the investigation. The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of this investigation, a standard procedure in these types of incidents.”
