Tucson Padres Win Recycling Award

Saturday, August 20th, 2011

Congratulations to the Tucson Padres and their fans! The Padres were honored by the Arizona Recycling Coalition as having the best recycling program in Arizona in the Entertainment and Sports category.

The Tucson Padres initiated their program by working with the City of Tucson Environmental Services Department and requesting large recycling containers be used for all home games. They set a bold goal of recycling five tons (10,000 lbs.) of material during the season. To achieve this goal, the Padres worked to educate staff, vendors and fans on what to recycle at the park. The outstanding results exceeded their goals, as the Tucson Padres and their fans recycled 11.5 tons (23,000 lbs.) this season, averaging 400 lbs. of recycled material per game. That’s what I’d call a home run.

An award will be presented to the Tucson Padres before the game on Saturday, August 20th at Kino Stadium.

The Arizona Recycling Coalition (AzRC) is a non-profit organization of citizens committed to promoting recycling efforts in the public and private sectors throughout Arizona.
