Safety Pins are the Madonna of Fashion
Get it? Because they both keep getting reinvented? Alright, maybe that is a stretch but safety pins have been through more face lifts than most items in fashion history (maybe not more than Madonna, but I’m sure it’s close).
What started as a simple fastening device became a standard accessory in 80’s punk fashion, an inspiration for couture fashion designers like Versace, and now safety pins can be found in ornate hair accessories, jewelry, and as graphic designs on clothing.
Have you or would you wear any of these safety-pin inspired designs?

A very large safety pin ring!

Rhinestone safety pin earrings... thoughts?
I have never been one to rock safety pins but some of this stuff is pretty cute… I might become a safety pin convert! Let me know if you have any unique safety pin looks of your own!

Everyday is Halloween
October is upon us so its time for candy, pumpkins, and costumes. When I was a kid I always thought about Halloween as being something magical, like something was in the air. Now that I’m all grown up it doesn’t mean that I want to lose that, its different of course but still special.
I’m sure everyday is Halloween for Tim Burton, he’s created some of our favorite movies that take us into a different world, for kids and adults alike.
Harpersbazaar.com just featured a beautifully dark fashion spread of Tim Burton mixed with magical fashion.
“In anticipation of his retrospective at New York’s Museum of Modern Art, filmmaker Tim Burton re-imagines the season’s dark delights.” Photographs by Tim Walker.
As we go into October lets remember what Halloween can be and make the most out of it.

Capelets are Back, and I love them!
Well… I will love them once our city temperature drops under 100 degrees. Cape coats and capelets are one of the hottest trends for winter and are a great way to stay warm and fashionable.
Note: to my fellow Tucsonans, these will not heat you up to the point of sweating during our “winter,” which is an awesome bonus because we deserve a few sweat free months!
Before you even think the word superhero look at these images:
Now, tell me do you see anything comic book about those looks? I do not. I see numerous outerwear classics that are timeless and chic. These versatile pieces can be worn to almost any occasion and are a great way to add a contemporary, gothic, or victorian flare to any outfit.
I hope you will consider a cape/capelet for your winter wardrobe and leave those trench coats behind!

Homeless Sheik?
There are many names for this style: Bohemian, homeless sheik, vintage or what I like to call the bag lady look.
In this struggling economy, not everyone can afford to shop at the mall or invest in high-end designer brands and I’m included in that group.
I have found through astute observation and conversation that many high school and college girls are buying their outfits from second hand stores. I remember when I was in high school that if someone shopped at a thrift store they were weird, but its everywhere!
Taking that route might be good on your pocket but not so good on the fashion industry and that includes small businesses. Personally I’m not a big fan of this style that Mary Kate Olsen has trademarked. It looks unpolished and sloppy but apparently people like it because it’s everywhere.
This was rampant at the lollapalooza 2009.
While I think its cool to borrow an old pair of your mom’s sunglasses or grandma’s vintage pumps, creating a whole wardrobe from other peoples discarded items is a fashion tragedy. Retailers are also hopping aboard this trend but why pay $100 plus on a pair of jeans that have huge holes in them?!

Mary-Kate Olsen
I believe there is way to capture the vintage style, save money and look good, but you have to find your way because it differs from person to person. REMEMBER, homeless sheik is NOT a good trend.

Bloody Dandy Women!
As summer comes to a close, it’s time to start looking forward to fall and winter (even though we don’t have much of a winter here in this desert we call home.)
What styles can we be expect to see this coming season? Have you ever
heard of a British Dandy? Me neither…but I assure you they existed! Dandys were
British aristocracy, an exclusive group for men in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.
The runway Designers are digging deep into history and changing a few things up
to suit today’s fashionable women. Key elements to the female dandy include:
-High collars and bow blouses
-Waistcoats and tailcoats slim cut in either single or double-breasted.
-Fob chains
Pretty much anything that exudes British royalty and the money that came along with the
Title. Think sharp corners and unique angles with girly accents like frills and bows. Sure
to be a hit!

Newest Trend to Crave: Robot Jewelry
I don’t know what it is about these cute little robots, but they are turning regular people into squealing maniacs! I’ll admit I did let out an “oh those are adorable!” when I saw their little legs move and dangle but shrieking in delight at the sight of them is a bit extreme. People are snatching up robot necklaces in every color and style they can get their hands on! Don’t even think about asking if we have robot earrings, we have sold out of them twice already! Sadly, they were gone before I could get a pair.
I know what you’re thinking… this is a trend for tweens or scene kids but it isn’t! Believe me when I tell you that adults are as hooked on these charming bots as anyone else. So, look out for this trend and expect it to show up in other merchandise. Just remember to take a robot home when you get the chance because they will probably be sold out when you go back!

Rhinestones are a Girl’s Best Friend!
I have never been into expensive jewelry, which I’m sure my husband is very thankful for, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want some bling in my accessories! In these tough financial times you can still look fabulous on a budget.
Rhinestones have been very popular in jewelry for as long as many of us can remember, and lately in clothing as well.
Rhinestones can be awesome, but don’t go over board (especially with your clothing). It can add just the right detail, or you can end up looking like a school art project gone wrong.

Buckle Up!
I know that oh-so-clever title probably has you confused about whether I am going to write about traffic safety laws or belt buckles… If you guessed the latter, You’re Awesome ( I never doubted you for a second) and as a reward I’ll be taking you on an exciting adventure through the world o’buckles.
This should be a smooth ride for everyone because buckles are a very neutral topic, unlike pencil skirts… Before we start this journey I would like to thank one of our readers for inspiring me to conduct a poll, and as it turns out men do think pencil skirts are sexy (or at least the ones I asked do). This just might inspire me to conduct a larger poll, but that’s more work for me so, we shall see about that.
Enough of that nonsense, we must go onward into belt buckles!
Neves is a great company to buy miscellaneous buckles from. They carry a ton of different designs including: pop art, religious, skulls, beer brands, and even video games. These buckles are unisex, and are a great size because they are small enough not to be obnoxious but large enough to appreciate the design. Belt buckles are a great way to add interest to a regular jeans and a tee shirt ensemble.
Guys are already on board with buckle wearing so, ladies don’t be afraid to buckle! Neves carries buckles that are feminine, humorous, punk, retro, and any other design you might desire on a buckle.
Buckles may not be appropriate office wear but you can certainly wear them anywhere on the weekends. Check out some of Neves best sellers below.

Pencil Skirts are sexy, so wear one!
Even if pencil skirts are not your style you should rock one anyway because they flatter any figure! I’m serious, whether you want to give the illusion of curves, accentuate the curves you have, or create a more flattering figure; all you need is a pencil skirt. Although pencil skirts look great on anyone, you better make sure you are wearing the right size and specific style for your figure, I don’t want you gals looked like stuffed sausages! (Not that any of you would look like that, but sometimes caution is necessary in fashion). The skirt should hug your curves, but it should not be so tight that your date gets nervous that your button will pop off and hit him in the face. So, play around with the length, pattern, and color of the skirt to find one that is best for you. Also, be sure to experiment with skirts that have a back or side slit to expand your range of movement.
I’m not going to bore you with a history of pencil skirts because you guys know how to google right? I am going to leave you with some awesome pictures for inspiration, let me know what you think.

Zombies Lovers Unite!
Horror! Dracula, Frankenstein… They are still all alive (well maybe technically alive) and well in our hearts and minds. But one has risen above the rest and has proven that it’s going to be around for a while… ZOMBIES!
The Zombie movies keep pumping out; Zombies are also popular in music (Zombie Girl, Rob Zombie… I could go on and on), and there are many Zombie dedicated clothing lines. I don’t know what it is about them that is so glamorous, it could be the brain eating, maybe the gore… These are all attractive qualities, and are very rock and roll if you ask me. It could be that Zombies can reach anyone; if there was a Zombie apocalypse we could all be sweet Zombies, or super awesome Zombie killers. Either way it’s a WIN situation.
A fun tee by Seibei.

Reversible Zombie Hoodie by Electric Zombie.

Zombie Heels & Flats by Iron Fist Clothing.
Zombies are rock stars; they do what they want when they want. So why wouldn’t we love them? There’s a lot of Zombie clothes and Zombie related accessories out there, so get creative and have fun!
