Trends so Delicious, You’ll Crave them

by on Jun. 29, 2009, under Uncategorized

To avoid getting you worked up (in the midst of the summer heat), I’ve decided to write a blog that contains enough edge to satisfy your fashion cravings but not enough to stir up any of our more devoted readers. You can think of this one as the diet soda of blogs… refreshing and tasty but light and calorie free.

Today, I’m going to introduce you to two fashion trends that I absolutely love right now! These trends are discussed in depth on Style.com as the2009 trends, but I told you this was diet soda so we are only doing a light exploration.

The first trend is called Depression Chic. It is a modern way to emulate the classic style of the 1920’s.  This style is all about sack dresses, flapper attire, and the very chic look below by Marc Jacobs.

Love this, right!? If I could walk around like that in daily life I would be ecstatic!

This next style is called Trash & Vaudeville.  Style.com describes this as a “gloriously trashy eighties revival’ and I don’t know about you but that sounds awesome to me! You will find a lot of denim, shredded lace, shoulder pads (eww) and a little punk rock flare (cough Betsey Johnson cough).  One of my favorite looks is by Charles Anastase:

These styles are great because you can easily create your own looks, and if you do post a link so I can see a pic! Well kids, that concludes our journey into the exciting trends of 2009, hope you enjoyed it! Oh, and before you hate mail me, I actually like diet soda (I prefer mine with rum in it, but that is a different story for people 21 and up… who drink responsibly).

Like the 1st look, a little trite for the style.

I like the high waisted look on the top pic, and the eighties was my hey-day, so the second one is very ‘early Madonna’.

I’m so happy to see the super low-as-you-can-go jeans leaving the area.

The high waist may look neat, but how dang uncomfortable. But yes, it is preferable to the butt-crack jeans.
