DIYers Do It Better

by on Jul. 02, 2009, under Uncategorized

I have been a fan of DIY (do it yourself) art and fashion for a long time now.  I started learning how to sew over 10 years ago and have made tons of different styles of clothing.  Like any artist knows, starting out, you make some mistakes.  I have made plenty, but luckily I know they are all learning experiences.  I have a drawer of unfinished garments that I got frustrated with and keep thinking I am going to get back to.  When I was in school, I supplemented my measly record store paychecks by selling my creations on Ebay.  Since then, the wonderful world of Etsy happened.  Etsy is a crafter’s dream come true.  Everything listed there is supposed to be handmade.  You can buy art prints, find home screened baby tees,  natural homemade soaps, etc.  I have sold a few things on Etsy, but I have bought waaaay more.

A few of my favorite DIYers:

Siobhan is a staple in the DIY community in Tucson and is a professed Design Machine.  She (her real name is Elizabeth) has been averaging a fashion show at least every other month either in Tucson or the Phoenix Area  and sells her wears at Zoe Boutique.  She also has started teaching sewing classes, called Staples & Stitches,  to teens at Skrappy’s.  This girl will make you proud to wear handmade art!
