Fort Buckley - A virtual outpost, from which Don Smith discusses conservatism, politics, and national security matters

The Show-Me State’s loss can be the Grand Canyon State’s gain—here’s why:

1) For those Arizonans who hate the Bidwills (e.g., everyone at my local Buffalo Wild Wings), Rush could become the new face of the Cardinals’ head shed.  If, on the other hand, you like the Bidwills, Rush can be their shield.  He’s had twenty-years plus of successfully absorbing hate.

2) Rush will bring LOTS of money with him.  I’ll bet he’ll pick up some of the bills the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority is footing to run University of Phoenix Stadium.  That might leave some money for other things in Arizona—schools, roads, etc…

3) I’ll bet Rush lowers the concession prices, so you can actually AFFORD a beer and a brat at the game.

4) Arizona is a pretty red state.  In 2008, while Obamamania swept most of the nation and all of the American media, Arizonans elected more Republicans statewide.  This is Rush Country!  (That muffled explosion you just heard in the distance was Leftfield’s skull).

5)  For Arizona’s liberals, Rush will fill their lives by giving them someone to hate and mock.   There will be unbridled joy at the Arizona Daily Star, the Arizona Republic, faculty lounges in Tucson/Tempe/Flagstaff and hackey-sack venues statewide.   The Tucson Weekly will never lack for copy, or for reasons to be smug.  (Not that that’s ever stopped them before).  Heck—Billie Stanton and Anne Denogean might re-enter journalism!  Come to think of it…

6) …if the U of A could figure out a way to turn agita into electricity, we’d never have to worry about air conditioning bills again.

The possibilities are endless!

If Rush were to come to Arizona, the Cardinal would turn into a Pygmay Owl, and the Bidwells would get a permanent tax abatement to stay.  Rush Bimbaugh is a psychotic narciscist and edges on sedition.  For the first time in ten years the Cardinals have actually gained affection from fans all over, even here in California. You all just love to polarize everything.  I here Croatia is attracting sports investors.

You all just love to polarize everything

So, it’s bad to say polarizing things? Like, “Rush Bimbaugh is a psychotic narciscist and edges on sedition”?
How does Rush “edge on sedition?”  (This ought to be good).

    • winnieo

Don,  It’s bad to think and/or believe polarized things. Encouraging polarization is not a good thing. Don’t you ever think? Especially before you speak?

Sorry, Santa Cruz, but Rush is OVER the edge of sedition. Anyone with half a brain who has ever heard him understands that he makes his living by encouraging stereotyping, racism,  and hate.

      My favorite Limbaugh quotes:

“The NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There I said it.”

He has referred to basketball as “the favorite sport of gangs.”

He has called President Obama “a “Halfrican-American.”

He has compared illegal Latino immigrants to an “invasive species” and Native Americans as “Injuns.”

And you like this…person. (I won’t insult men by calling…that person a man.)

Arizona is not a red state. Arizona is not a blue state. The whole concept of red and blue states is made up. It’s a polarization ploy.

You are aware that hate in your heart is bad for your heart, right? I can hear it already: “I really don’t care.”

      • Don Smith

Winnieo, you read my mind.  I’ve zero interest in your opinion, because I think it’s worthless.

I imagine you think the same of my opinion—but who cares?  I don’t.

        • winnieo

What is the matter with you? Are you unable to form logical sentences?

I am very much interested in your opinion. The only way people can understand other people is through discussion. Are you unable to discuss your views? “Who cares?” I care. I enjoy intelligent exchanges with people, particularly people with different views from mine. There is always something to learn.

WHY do you think my opinion is worthless? Can you even answer just that one question?

          • Don Smith

Why do you think my opinion is worthless.

            Here’s why—remember this gem?
Don Smith is a sick, sick man. Anyone who would admire the work of a daisy cutter is non-human and utterly immoral.

Are you having a mental breakdown or something? I hope your medical insurance covers psychiatry because you need help. The VA is also there to help you – take advantage of their excellent care.

            My condolences to your family.

It was obvious that, in my article referencing “daisy cutters,” I expressed satisfaction in seeing them used on Taliban and al Qaeda fighters.  You know—the people who gained fame by persecuting Afghans who flew kites, executed women in soccer stadiums and threw acid in the faces of girls trying to go to school.

You made it sound as if I wanted to use daisy cutters on Girl Scouts.

Anyone who jumps to those kinds of conclusions, without asking me first to clarify what I meant, is—again, in my opinion—someone who’s not interested in intelligent exchanges with people, particularly people with different views from mine.

Do you routinely open conversations with people whose opinions differ from yours, by saying that they are degenerates?

I don’t think Rush would be comfortable here – Oxycontin is hard to come by, this is meth country.

  • SantaCruzSam

The acts of polarization that we are referencing are the “nose flicking” initiatory acts of inflamatory characterizations of anything that the Grand Ole Party and its inflexible Teutonic ideology are in disagreement with. Carl Rove mastered this school boy tactic and turned half of the nation into moo-cows of thought.  Most devout Evangelicals have caught on… and have split the Red Sea of polarizing dialogue to enter the Promise Land of compromise.
Responding with a clinical observation about Rush, who is akin to a “dry drunk” in AA terms, is assuredly fueling the polarized world we live in, yet is also adding some sanity and back story to the life of a man who is at the core of his work, simply  not good for the future needs of America and our necessary measures to compete in a global market place that is here to stay.  Rush not Obama is an embarrassment on the world scene….you know the ones we need to help us in Afgan!
As for sedition, look it up.  Rush is filled with anger and rage and the poorest role model on earth for the next generation of civic minded youth. His basic M.O. is on the edge of laws designed to prevent the inciting of a riot. His edicts and dictums would not be allowed on the band stage of most public parks.   OK take a breath now… this is not a matter of Free Speech, it is a matter of what is intended to inform as oppossed to intended to lather one up for the next round of opinionating, coupled with ZERO action, except Tea Party aberrancy and riotous behavior.  That is called seditious.   His adolescent rants are helping who????
As for pugilistic, pugnacious, pompous, portents of polarizing pundits, yes we can play the game too. We are just not moo-cows being led in our daily cognition’s.
Rush is in his niche in Florida where everyting is Pink. Arizona is for real men.

Feel better, Santa Cruz Sam?  That was entertaining, I must admit.

I’d always wondered what the lasting aftereffects of LSD were.  Now, after reading that…um, missive, I think I know.

  • SantaCruzSam

LSD? what in God’s name are you talking about?  I am one of the cleanest living gents on earth, married for 30 years, vibrant and successful children and granchildren; 2 college degrees, Business and Religious Studies, former contractor for the State Department, and retired military.
Why do you write for the folks there in Arizona?  It appears your primary motive is to pick fights. If not, what is your motive?

Why do you write for the folks there in Arizona?

I don’t.  These are my opinions.

It appears your primary motive is to pick fights.

Go back and look at the tone of your first post.  I’m the one looking to pick a fight?  Please.
In my opinion—and, remember, this is an opinion blog, not a public service site—you came here with every intention of picking a fight.  I chose instead to poke fun at you—which I can do, because it’s my blog.

  • SantaCruzSam

Fair enough Don. Yet, I have been reading all the posting since the site started, as I have a pal in Patagonia and I like the idea of the online edition. I hope it works for all of you.  Opinions and poking fun are certainly part of the game of blogging.  However when your ressponders reply in like kind,  you atttack them, or you outright declare that you do not care what anyone else says or feels, and fequently sidestep their pointed questions, with, ” I don’t care”. As the old saying goes, “if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen”  If you want this to be a unilateral world, Moscow has some cheap apartments.

Is that a joke or an opinion?

It’s a great pleasure to read your article. I learn the things which i haven’t learned before. I can surely share this to my friends. Thanks a lot.
