Al Sharpton—the gift who keeps on giving*—wants to come visit us!
Sunday, April 25th, 2010From the Associated Press; hat tip to the Washington Post. All emphasis is added.
NEW YORK — The Rev. Al Sharpton says he’s ready to travel to Arizona and march in the streets to protest the state’s new immigration law.
Sharpton joined Lillian Rodriguez Lopez from the Hispanic Federation in New York City on Sunday to speak out against the law. They say activists are prepared to commit civil disobedience to fight it.
Here’s the link to the Washington Post article, furnished as proof that I’m not making this up, out of wishful thinking: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/04/25/AR2010042502131.html
How will Al Sharpton look in a pink set of prisoner’s PJs in Sherrif Joe’s jail? I know…I shouldn’t get my hopes up…but it’s such a wonderful image, I can’t help myself!
Does Reverend Al expect the same kid-glove treatment in Phoenix that he got from David Dinkins? the former NYC mayor?
Perhaps Reverend Al can put in a plug for Azatlan! (Tucson’s supposed to be the capital of Azatlan, right?)
What I can’t wait to see: Reverend Al being interviewed by the Arizona Republic and the Arizona Daily Star. I wonder if the Phoenix or Tucson media will choose to bring up the names of Tawana Brawley, Yankel Rosenbaum or Stephen Pagones in the interviews. To be sure, at least one of those names will be mentioned in the final stories, as obligatory background information. But, I’m skeptical that the Tucson and Phoenix media will enlighten their readers on Reverend Al’s past, casualty-causing exploits in Crown Heights and Freddie’s Fashion Mart.
We’ll see.
