The Arizona Democratic Party has printed up and is sending out this mailer for the Libertarian Candidate in CD 8. Yes, that’s right—the state’s Democratic Party is buying and mailing campaing materials for OTHER candidates in the CD 8 race. Check out the top of the mailer.

I did some checking, and mailers like this cost between 40-50 cents a pop. With well over 30,000 Republican households in CD8, that means the Arizona Democratic Party probably spent way over ten thousand dollars to tout a candidate who wants to…well, let’s quote the mailer:

Repeal Obama’s Health Care Bill

Gee…something tells me the Democratic Party, or Organizing For America, didn’t tell donors that their money might be used to print and mail mailers supporting the LIBERTARIAN candidate.

Or, perhaps, their biggest benefactors—-public-sector unions—-have money to burn!

Wait…there’s more:

Absolutely No Restrictions On 2nd Amendment Rights

That made me think of this Arizona Daily Star article on open carry:

Gloria DiCenco was chatting amiably with a few Italian speakers at Beyond Bread on North Campbell Avenue on April 20 when armed men began coming in.

First there were two, then more. Finally, maybe 20 people carrying holstered guns and, in some cases, ammunition, arrived and ordered food, DiCenso said. A hush fell over the restaurant, she said, and her group’s happy mood turned tense.

If anyone in Gloria’s group donated to the Democratic Party, perhaps they’re even more tense after reading this mailer. A mailer they helped pay for.

Don’t worry, Tucson panini-loving pacifists. The ad for Steve Stolz isn’t as blatant as the Democratic Party’s ad for Libertarian Nick Coons in the 5th District.

(Funny, but I’ve not heard of any mailers like this in CD7. Why would the Democrats be mounting a disinformation campaign in ONLY ONE of the southern Arizona Congressional districts, CD8? Hmmm…)

Greg Patterson of EspressoPundit thinks this means that Democrats are scared to talk about their own issues. Perhaps.

It’s also good old fashioned politics. As the saying goes, politics ain’t beanbag; it’s the contact sport of the mind. (Actually, that’s a combination of TWO old sayings, but anyhoo…) I remember Rush Limbaugh’s “Operation Chaos” in 2008, when he encouraged Republicans to reregister as Democrats so they could vote for Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primaries.

Fortunately, both sides can play this game, in elections to come. Jim Geraghty of National Review noticed an ad for a Tea Party candidate in Florida. If you looked closely at the ad, it said that it was paid for by…the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Geraghty’s reply:

All right, Democrats. You want to play this way? We can play this way.

You thought American Crossroads and those groups were a pain this year? Wait until they do everything they can to promote Green Party candidates in key races in 2012. Let a thousand Ralph Naders bloom.

I see lots of conservatives paying for lots of Green Party mailers in 2012. Or better yet, Greens who choose to run in Democratic primaries.
