Jerry DeWitt realized he was an atheist after more than twenty-five years of Pentecostal ministry. His ministry experience begins at the early age of seventeen! He also holds the distinction of being the first graduate of, and a spokesman for The Clergy Project, which was started by Richard Dawkins and former minister and author Dan Barker.
Most recently, Jerry was appointed Executive Director of Recovering from Religion (RR) which was foundered by Dr. Darrel Ray.
In “Surviving Identity Suicide” Jerry tells his story of reason-based self-discovery and religious self-destruction. By coming out as a non-believer, he lost his good community standing, political career, secular employment and most of his relationships with both friends and family. Yet, as his story details, the rewards of personal integrity far outweigh the price paid for being true to one’s self in a time of cultural and religious conformity.

UPDATE: Jerry will be speaking at the American Atheist National Convention following the Reason Rally in Washington D.C., March 24th, 2012.
