Steam for Mac + Portal free playby Thomas Hruska on May. 12, 2010, under Arts
If you have ever wanted to play games on your Mac, then head on over to Steam right now.
The Mac client allows you to play “Steam Play” games on both a PC and a Mac. In the past, the phrase “Mac Gamer” was fairly laughable but now people with Macs can play real games too. Some readers might point out that some companies DO make ports to Mac but those are few and far between.
At the starting gate, it looks like there are 38…wait make that, 64 games. Not a bad start especially since Portal, Torchlight, Braid, and Osmos are in that list. The list does seem initially geared toward lightweight hardware and “causal/indie” games. Regardless, Valve is helping to close the gap between the Mac and PC worlds with the Steam gaming platform.
Also, Steam is having a free-play Portal party for both PC and Mac gamers (not sure if it is free-play or just free). Portal is a fun game with a great storyline. It is also ranked as the #1 game of all time, according to Metacritic:
Portal (PC, 2007) – 95%, Rank #1
Genre: First-Person Shooter
ESRB: T (Teen)
The cake is a lie. But very tasty.
