Can I get a Witness?
Thursday, July 30th, 2009If you need one, they’ll be at the Tucson Convention Center tomorrow: the district convention for The Jehovah’s Witnesses is hosting it’s final three-day session there this weekend. The JW’s have held seven “Keep on the Watch” sessions this summer in Tucson and a press release from the group said they were “delighted to note that many in the community accepted their invitation to attend sessions of the annual three-day event.”
While the Witnesses and those attending are focused, one presumes, on spiritual benefits, a press release from the groups said that In addition to the spiritual benefits, the Tucson Convention and Visitor’s Bureau estimates the local economic impact of the convention to be approximately $20.4 million. Not bad for a town desperate for a little economic stimulus.
This weekend’s event starts Friday at 9:20 a.m. (yes, 9:20) at the Tucson Convention Center. If you’re curious just what it is the Witnesses believe, check out this and this. All sessions are free and open to the public and unlike most religious gatherings, no collections are ever taken, according to the press release. Questions?
