How true. Keep in mind that when the article says “endorsed by the US”, it means someone APPOINTED by Obama voted for it. Nobody is elected to the UN! African nations supporting it means leaders of African nations, without approval of their citizens, get together with other leaders and vote to inflict their laws on a public that does not vote on those laws. That is a tyrannical system, and is the reason the US has been very careful in its UN votes in the past.

There are so many fallacies in this article that it would take longer than the article itself to point them out.

While McCain is far from perfect, I commend him on joining 3 other GOP Senators to vote for the expanded background checks. Too bad he couldn’t convince Flake to do likewise.

You’ve identified a very thorny issue – implementing the mental health screening component of background checks. There are no easy answers here. My own take, convene a bipartisan panel with representation from the American Psychiatric Assn, the national organization representing police chiefs and sheriffs favoring responsible gun control, and whatever organization represents the data base managers – with input from focus groups involving the full spectrum of our population. I also strongly advocate mental health hygiene curricula at all public schools involving students AND teachers and impacting all grade levels.

Enhanced background checks will be meaningless without laws that compel mental health professionals to report patients who are a public risk to a national database and hold these same professionals criminally responsible for failing to do so. Most all the recent mass murders were carried out by nutjobs that should never have had access to weapons. Expanded background checks will have little impact on career criminals who don’t obey the laws to begin with and deal largely in stolen weapons. The liberals will scream like stuck pigs if anyone dares to propose legislation that would out the mental health crazies and deprive them of their sacred confidentiality and privacy closets. Look how they protected the identity of the HIV positive from being outed. Mental health will be no different. The left don’t like effective background checks any more than the right. I doubt it will ever happen, even though I believe it may be the single most effective method to prevent some future bloodbaths by the insane.

Take a look at the sculpture which stands outside the front entrance of the U.N building … on U.S. soil … as an afront to a nation which operates under a Constitution that includes the 2nd Amendment.

First of all, the UN treaty does NOT require registering all guns. And secondly, I see no reason why ratifying this treaty would block us from sending arms to Israel. The treaty’s basic intent is to block arms sales to rogue states or groups that would attack civilians or commit other crimes against humanity.

I learned while getting my PhD not to trust polls. Studies have shown how its taken can greatly effect the outcome. If all the people polled were in a liberal stronghold like New York City you would get this result. If you polled Phoenix you would get a different result. Alot also depends on how you ask the question. I could conduct 2 polls on this subject and get 2 completely different results.
