This team went undefeated to win the district 5 tournament to advance to the state tournament. During the state tournament we were 2-2 in pool play loosing to the two teams that we played in the semifinals and finals. We were able to avenge our losses against both teams (Arrowhead in the semifinals and Gilbert National in the finals) During district play our bats were on fire, and then they cooled off a bit during state pool play games only to heat back up during bracket play of the state championships. Every kid on the team contributed on the run to the championship, either coming up with a big catch or a big hit at just the right time. Jason Fowler caught every inning we played in both district and state tournaments and was a big part of our defense.
Championship game recap:
We won the toss and started on defense as the home team holding them to 1 run in the top of the first inning. Our turn at bat in the bottom of the 1st saw us hit around the line up including Johnny Rickel’ 4 run grand slam blast capping off an 8 run inning. Gilbert being a very difficult and well coached team fought back to tie it and take the lead 9-10 by the 4th inning. Carter Kahn hit a solo HR to tie it back up at 10. Camden Coates hit a solo HR giving us the lead at 11-10 and Collin Davidson hit an rib double. We score one more in the bottom of 4 to make it 13-10. In the 5th inning Camden Coates hit his 2nd HR of the game plating 3 making the score 16-10. Gilbert was unable to score in the 5th or 6th inning. The game ended 16-10, and the hats flew!!!
