Salpointe’s Swim Team is sponsoring a Diaper Drive and a Walk for ALS
by Andy Morales on Oct. 21, 2009, under SportsDiaper Drive:
The Southern Arizona Community Diaper Bank is in desperate need of diaper sizes 3, 4, 5, and 6.
Please drop off packs of diapers from Monday, October 19th through Friday, October 23rd at the gazebo in the Freshman Patio. They will also have a table collecting diapers at their last home meet against Tucson High School on Thursday, October 22nd (Ft. Lowell Pool).
This diaper drive is in conjunction with Salpointe’s Games for the Greater Good™.
Salpointe Football Coach Dennis Bene derived the idea of Games for the Greater Good™.
“The sole purpose of creating Games for the Greater Good™ was to show my players that life has so much to offer and we, are truly blessed,” says Bene. “In light of our relative adversity, I wanted the true character of my players to be revealed. At the end of the day, we are grateful for our good fortune and we look to share it with others.”
Games for the Greater Good™ is a non-profit community service project designed to raise awareness for local and national causes.
Various Salpointe clubs and sports teams, like the swim team, have also volunteered to get involved in the festivities, planning food drives, awareness days for students to experience life with juvenile diabetes and collecting packages to be mailed to troops.
This is an important cause and I plan on dropping off a few diapers myself, having changed way too many for my three girls.
Arizona Walk to Defeat ALS
A dad of a Salpointe swimmer was diagnosed with ALS last year. To help out the family, the men’s swim team got together to raise money for ALS and walk for the Reihl family.
This year, in tough economic times and the decline of Mr. Reihl’s health, they are getting together again on Saturday, October 24th to “Walk to Defeat ALS”. They have made an effort to include students, staff, and administrators in our walk to defeat ALS and raise money for the Reihl family.
The Riehl family and the Salpointe Men’s swim team would like for the community of Salpointe to participate in the ALS walk this year and would appreciate your support. The Salpointe swim team would like to invite staff and students to come out and walk for Jim Riehl, Sophomore Ryan Riehl’s father, who has been diagnosed with ALS.
