Northwest Desert Classic Announces All-Tournament Teams

by on Dec. 31, 2009, under Sports

Desert Christian faced Edwin Parr early Thursday morning in a match up between two schools of similar size.

It was the best performance of the week for the team from Canada and a good way for Desert Christian to end the holidays.

Myles Mayfield is just a sophomore for the Eagles but he displayed the leadership needed to pull out this win as Edwin Parr hung tough for the first half.

Mayfield finished with 17 points and senior Daniel Bays added 10. Other scores were pretty even as Iram Alday was able to play his bench for most of the fourth quarter. Junior Mitchell Pitney had 9, senior Daniel Boice had 8, senior Colton Cray had 7, senior Michael Jansen had 6 and senior David Hoffman had 3.

Edwin Parr (Canada) had a difficult tournament but they were never down and competed until the last whistle blew. Jon LeMessurier had a break-out game against Desert Christian with 21 points and Geoff Morey added 7 for the Pacers. Joel Kuzyk had 4, Matt Smith and Kyle Czwil each had a bucket and Ben Shopland scored a point.

“It was awesome (coming to Tucson). To play the big schools and level of players was a good experience for us,” said LeMessurier. “We also got to see our first NBA game.”

The Canadian team went to the Suns/Celtics game on Wednesday night and had their photos taken on the court.
