BASEBALL: Salpointe and Ironwood Ridge advance in winners bracket
by Andy Morales on May. 01, 2010, under SportsBaseball Playoffs
Salpointe beat Mountain Ridge and will now face top seed Desert Ridge at the Camelback Ranch Stadium in Glendale on Tuesday at 7 pm. Desert Ridge hasn’t lost since March 26. With 12 seniors and 4 juniors, the Jaguars are very experienced.
Desert Ridge won the 5A-II state championship last year as the top seed and has marched right on to the higher division this year.
Salpointe has the skill to make to this a good game.
Ironwood Ridge beat Sunnyside in extra innings, giving them 2-1 record against the Blue Devils this year.
5 Ironwood Ridge does not get to host the 13 seed Marcos de Niza in the second round. Instead, the Nighthawks have to travel to Surprise. To make matters worse, the game will be played at 4 pm.
Sunnyside plays at Pinnacle because the higher seeded losers of the first round get to host…..seriously.

It was all Lancers after that as a combination of good pitching, hitting and defense came all together to stymie the visiting team. Mountain Ridge used a total of 4 pitchers this game.
